The girlfriend of the late George Floyd has spoken out about his grief over the loss of his mother during her emotional testimony.
Speaking on the fourth day of the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, Courteney Ross revealed that Floyd had been left "broken" after his mother's death back in May of 2018.
Per The Insider, 45-year-old Ross described her late partner as a "mama's boy", something she says she could tell "from the minute" she met him.
Ross and Floyd were dating up until his death in May last year.
Speaking through tears on Thursday (April 1), Ross details how Floyd had changed following the loss of his mom:
"When he came back from Houston, he seemed kind of like a shell of himself. Like he was... like he was broken. He seemed so sad, he didn't have the same kinda bounce that he had."
Insider reports that on the day of his death, Floyd cried out "mama... I'm through" as Chauvin and his fellow former officers held the 46-year-old to the ground.
Ross also spoke about the couple's struggle with opioid addiction, the Metro reports.
She explained to prosecutor Matthew Frank that their experience was "a classic story of how many people get addicted to opioids".
After stating that Floyd suffered from chronic back pain and she suffered with chronic neck pain, Ross said: "After prescriptions that were filled, we got addicted and tried really hard to break that addiction many times."
Revealing that the pair were fully aware of their addiction "every day", Ross detailed the couple would purchase opioids on the black market and take them together.
She then told the courtroom that Floyd would take OxyContin and Oxycodone.
"Addiction, in my opinion, is a lifelong struggle," she said. "It’s not something that just kind of comes and goes. It’s something I’ll deal with forever."
The Metro reports that Floyd's autopsy showed evidence that he had consumed fentanyl and methamphetamine prior to his death.

Ross also spoke about how the couple first met, telling the courtroom how Floyd had asked for her phone number after the pair met at the Salvation Army back in August 2017.
Floyd had approached Ross to ask if she was okay, as she revealed: "I was so tired. I had been through so much, my sons and I.
"This kind person just to come up to me and say 'I’ll pray with you' when I felt alone in this lobby. It was so sweet. At the time, I had lost a lot of faith in God."
"It’s one of my favorite stories to tell," she added.
Chauvin is charged with second-degree murder, with a sentence of up to 40 years in prison, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter, CBS News reports. He has pleaded not guilty.
