The distraught father of a young girl murdered by a career criminal has demanded “drastic changes” to the justice system that allowed his daughter’s killer to remain free.

Logan Federico, an aspiring teacher, was fatally shot on May 3, 2025, while visiting friends at the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

Her killer, 30-year-old Alexander Dickey, broke into the home where Logan was staying, executing her in cold blood after dragging her from her bed.

The Disturbing Details of Logan’s Final Moments

The murder has sparked outrage from her grieving father, Stephen Federico, who delivered an emotional testimony on Monday (September 29) and blasted lawmakers for the lax crime policies that failed to keep Dickey off the streets despite his extensive criminal history.

“Think about your child coming home from a night out with their friends, laying down going to sleep, feeling somebody come into their room and wake them.

"Drag them out of bed, naked, force on her knees with her hands over her head, begging for her life,” Federico said, his voice filled with anguish.

“She was 5-foot-3. She weighed 115 lbs… BANG! Dead. Gone. Why? Because Alexander Devonte Dickey - who was arrested 39 goddam times, 25 felonies - was on the street," he continued.

"You will be sick and tired of my face and my voice until this gets fixed.

"I will fight until my last breath for my daughter.

"Stop protecting the people that keep taking them from us… please. You have the power. We put you into power to do what you have to do.

"We’re asking you, we’re begging you all to stop this," he added.

Dickey’s Long History of Criminal Activity

According to The New York Post, Dickey’s criminal record reveals a disturbing pattern of behavior.

Since 2013, he has faced nearly 40 charges, including robbery, drug possession, and larceny.

Despite this, he served minimal time in prison, with records showing he spent only a little over 600 days incarcerated in ten years.

Federico condemned the justice system’s failure to keep dangerous repeat offenders like Dickey off the streets.

“He should have been in jail for over 140 years for all of the crimes he committed,” he slammed.

“You know how much time he spent in prison? A little over 600 days in ten years. He’s only 30 years old. He was committing 2.65 crimes a year since he was 15 years old," he added.

What happened after Dickey murdered Logan

Dickey continued his crime spree after murdering Logan.

On May 4, a Gaston resident reported seeing a man, later identified as the alleged killer, emerge from the woods and steal a car.

He crashed the vehicle shortly after and attempted to flee on foot, breaking into another home before attempting to set it on fire.

Dickey was eventually arrested and now faces a slew of charges, including murder, two counts of first-degree burglary, multiple weapons offenses, and several counts of theft.

He faces a potential life sentence for his violent actions, but for Federico, this is far from enough, as he has urged lawmakers to take immediate action to prevent tragedies like his daughter’s from happening again.

“I’m not going to be quiet until somebody helps.

"Logan deserves to be heard.

"Everyone on this panel deserves to be heard. And we will,” he declared.
