Since the death of George Floyd on May 25, the US has seen unrest.
Across the nation and in major cities all over the world, people have come together to protest - sometimes peacefully, sometimes violently - the systemic injustices carried out against black people, not least seen by the recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor.
People are demanding an end to police brutality and an end to the racism that is so deeply entrenched in America and the western world with a simple message: Black lives matter.
However, despite the turbulent times we are all witnessing, there have also been moments of love, such as this couple who got engaged amid a BLM protest in Raleigh, North Carolina.
You can see the incredible moment below:Along with the video above, some touching black and white images were captured and shared to Twitter by photographer Charles Crouch, who captioned the post:
"In the midst of the chaos, I witnessed a proposal in the middle of a protest. Love conquers all. #GeorgeFloydProtests #riots2020 #RaleighDemandsJustice #BlacklivesMaters #blacklove"
The happy couple in the images were later identified as Xavier Young and his new fiancée Marjorie Alston.
In an interview with E! News, Young revealed that the proposal nearly didn't go ahead as it did, as they were going to forgo the protest as Alston is currently pregnant and he had prior obligations.
"I didn't want her out there alone," he told the publication.
Fortunately, Young was able to cancel his plans, and the couple took to the streets of Raleigh to help spread the message. But before they left, Young packed a book bag with the some essentials including an engagement ring that he "snuck" in.
In fact, once they arrived at the demonstration, he told E! News that he "completely forgot" he even had the ring in his bag.
However, when the right moment came, Young told Marjorie and their friend to stop on the sidewalk for a moment so that he could grab some water.
And then - in his own words - "Boom, proposal."
The wonderful moment was captured completely coincidentally by Crouch, who told E! News: "I had my camera with me to document it for my company, 4C Visuals Group. I just happened to be standing right there when he went down on his knee. I began taking pictures."
Xavier captioned his own video of the proposal: "Making history while witnessing history."
The couple has revealed they they plan to marry next year.
