A house hearing derailed into chaos after Marjorie Taylor Greene, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Jasmine Crockett got into a heated exchange.
The House Oversight Committee proceedings took place on Thursday night (May 16) and were supposed to resolve whether Attorney General Merrick Garland was to be held in contempt of Congress.
However, the evening session spiraled out of control with lawmakers yelling over one another and hurling insults, leaving Chairman James Comer struggling to maintain order.
Watch the moment below:
The disarray began after Greene brought up the daughter of the Manhattan judge presiding over ex-President Donald Trump’s hush money trial, and then launched a personal attack on democrat Crockett's appearance.
“I’d like to know if any of the Democrats on this committee are employing Judge [Juan] Merchan’s daughter,” the 49-year-old Republican asked, as reported by The New York Post.
Crockett, 43, demanded that Greene explain “what that has to do with Merrick Garland,” and asked the controversial politician: “Do you know what we’re here for?”
“I think you know what you’re here for,” Greene hit back. “I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading.”
Greene then sneered at Ocasio-Cortez’s anger, saying: “Are your feelings hurt? Aww,” to which the democrat slammed: “Oh girl, baby girl! Don’t even play!”
“Oh, Really? Baby girl? I don’t think so,” Greene fired back before later agreeing to strike her words. But she still refused to apologize to Crockett and challenged AOC to a debate instead.
“Why don’t you debate me,” the Georgia Republican demanded. “I think it’s pretty self-evident,” AOC hit back.
“Yeah, you don’t have enough intelligence,” Greene insulted, resulting in more groans across the chamber and additional requests to strike her words.
"Don’t tell me to calm down,” Crockett responded. "If I come and talk s**t about her y'all gonna have a problem," she pointed out.
The chaotic stretch of the hearing, which started roughly 30 minutes into the proceedings, finally concluded after the panel voted to allow Greene to continue speaking.
The panel also voted along party lines to send the contempt of Congress resolution against Garland to the full House of Representatives.
