A Kansas man has confessed to trying to murder his wife in an effort to carry out a heinous plan.

Alfred Rus pleaded guilty to attempting to poison his wife in the hopes that she would be "out of the picture" so he could marry her daughter.

According to Fox 59 and the Kansas City Star, the 71-year-old appeared at Wayne County Court where he confessed to putting poison, as well as other drugs, into soft drinks in an attempt to murder his 51-year-old wife, Lisa Bishop.

He reportedly no longer wanted his wife around so that he could advance a relationship with her 31-year-old daughter (from a previous relationship).

The investigation into Ruf began in 2022 when his wife reported him to police claiming he was trying to poison her, according to police reports.

The charges against the man stem from several incidents dating back to 2021 where his wife was hospitalized and tested positive for several illegal drugs such as cocaine, benzodiazepines, and MDMA, which she claimed she did not knowingly take.

Charging documents revealed that Lisa was experiencing “unexplained headaches, drowsiness, diarrhea, and more."

Ruf later confessed to police he was "spiking" her in an attempt to kill her and marry her daughter and allegedly also sleep with a friend.

He informed officers that - from the beginning of September 2021 to the end of December 2021 - he poisoned his wife’s drinks around 12 times. On each occasion, he said her daughter and her friend would come over once the wife was unconscious and they would perform "sex acts on each other", per the court document.

Admitting that he knew this would ultimately result in his wife's death, he claims her daughter encouraged him to do so that they could inherit the life insurance policy and then get married themselves.

He admitted to putting substances into her soft drinks, namely Coca Cola, and physical evidence of this was handed into the authorities.

"Ruf stated that the substance would then make [his wife] go to sleep for approximately 13 hours or so,” court docs read as per Fox 59. “He stated that he would do this to eventually kill her."

It was reported that he first made the confession to his own wife due to her becoming suspicious of his behavior in January, but he also added that Lisa's daughter knew about the ongoing crime.

Two other suspects - believed to be the daughter and friend - are being questioned as part of the investigation, though, no arrests have been made yet.

Rus will serve four years in prison followed by five years of probation, per court documents, the Kansas City Star reported.
