A Florida woman who finally beat Covid-19 150 days after first being admitted to hospital has spoken out about her experience and claimed that she is "proof that God exists".

After being admitted to hospital back in July with severe Covid-19 and pneumonia, 55-year-old Isabel Pupo was on the verge of death, with her doctors convinced she would not pull through.

Speaking to CBS Miami, Florida-based cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Steven DeBeer revealed that he told Pupo's family "on numerous occasions" that she would not survive.

During her long stay at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, doctors say Pupo's oxygen levels became "unlivable".

More on Pupo's incredible story in the new report below:

Dr. Ari Ciment, a pulmonologist, told the news station: "I remember calling up Dr. DeBeer and I said, Steve can you even consider this lady with such a high BMI, very obese?"

Pupo would eventually require a respiratory life support treatment for 67 days - and even with the artificial lung, she was struggling to breathe.

Dr. DeBeer added: "Her oxygenation was in the 50% by that monitor. Just did not seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel."

But after a months-long battle, Pupo's deteriorated lungs healed and her oxygen levels improved.

However, after finally waking up from a medically induced coma, Pupo was said to be "all smiles".

Speaking about her near-life threatening experience, Pupo said: "I remember listening to my daughter's voice on the phone. They would put the phone near my ear and all I remember was that she would say, 'Mom, fight for me. You can do this. You are strong. We need you.'"

She said that her family was the inspiration that kept her fighting.

"Before I got intubated, I looked at the ceiling and told God, 'Please help me.' I thought of them," Pupo said.

"I am a miracle of God. I am the proof that God exists. I have to repeat; scientifically, I was not supposed to live," she added.

After being discharged from the Mount Sanai Medical Center in November, Pupo has spent the last three months in rehab. She is now finally home.
