Interrogation footage shows excuse 31-year-old wife gave cops after husband caught her in bed with teen student
Interrogation footage shows Indiana school employee Alicia Hughes being questioned over her relationships with her students.
The 31-year-old school secretary is facing five counts of child seduction after allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student.
Police originally responded to a reported battery involving Hughes and her husband on Valentine's Day. Her husband claims he caught her sleeping with an 18-year-old student from the school district where she worked. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
A 17-year-old student later told police that his communication with Hughes started in September 2025 after getting in contact with the school to report an absence.
Their conversations reportedly became increasingly sexual, and he alleged that five sexual encounters took place between them at different locations around Union City, Indiana, before the relationship ended in early November.
What did Hughes say in her police interview?
During a police interview, Hughes discussed the various issues in her marriage and accused her husband of prolonged physical and emotional abuse, but added that this did not justify her alleged actions.
When police interrogated her about her relationship with the 18-year-old student, Hughes explained that they had been intimate three times. Though he was legally an adult at the time of the alleged incidents, the relationship raised concerns because she was employed by the school.
What Hughes confessed to
Investigators asked Hughes about her relationship with the 17-year-old student. She denied having sex with him but confessed to sending him photos and meeting him in a Dollar General parking lot.
It remains to be seen whether the photos could lead to further charges.
Hughes asked for a lawyer when the police continued to press her about how the relationship started. She was arrested on five counts of child seduction, relating to the five alleged sexual encounters with the youngster.
Hughes was booked into the county jail reportedly on a $25,000 cash bond. Her husband filed for divorce and sought emergency custody of their three children.
Each child-seduction count carries a potential sentence of one to six years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
The school district said that Hughes had been removed from student-facing duties while the case is underway, stating that student safety takes precedence at the school.
