Kamala Harris has made history once again by becoming the first Vice President to join a Pride march.

Harris made a surprise appearance at a Pride March in Washington on Saturday (June 13) and took the opportunity to speak at the event and encourage Congress to pass the Equality Act.

Per TMZ, she said: "We need to make sure that our transgender community and our youth are all protected. We need, still, protections around employment and housing."

Speaking at Freedom Plaza, she added: "There is so much more work to do, and I know we are committed."

She appeared at the event with her husband and Second Gentleman of the United States, Douglas Emhoff, and the pair were accompanied by a security guard in dark sunglasses.

However, this is far from the first time that Harris has shown her support for members of the LGBTQ+ community, as revealed on Twitter.

One user wrote: "Happy Pride Month VP Kamala Harris. While others [were] arguing about Civil unions, Kamala was initiating same sex marriage back in 2004. She took a huge hit from the media in her stance Against Proposition 8. She also Spearheaded the elimination of the gay & trans panic defense."

Harris's appearance at the event went down a storm on social media, with some making comparisons to her predecessor Mike Pence.

One Twitter user wrote: "Can you believe it- the VP of the United States walking in a Pride march! Now imagine the former guy Pence….wow, did we get an upgrade [sic]."

A second added: "I love that Vice President Kamala Harris is attending a #PRIDE parade in DC right now."

A third wrote: "Was such a pleasure to walk in the Pride walk with @VP @KamalaHarris and @SecondGentleman."

Meanwhile, some people couldn't help but praise Harris' security guard for having a very unusual outfit by Pride standards!

Per Fox News, one wrote: "By far the best part of this is that the secret service officer thought a bowling shirt was the default pride parade outfit."

Another simply praised the agent for his work:

Hopefully, Harris will be the first of many Vice Presidents to march in a Pride parade!
