Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, has shared a wild "earthquake" theory about Charlie Kirk's passing.
The shooting death of the conservative influencer has sparked a whirlwind of political and media attention.
On September 10, during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University, the 31-year-old was fatally shot after an audience member questioned him about gun violence and how many incidents had involved transgender Americans.
Kirk responded: "Too many," and when asked how many mass shooters there had been in the last decade, he replied: "Counting or not counting gang violence?"
Moments later, a shot rang out, hitting Kirk in the neck. He collapsed in his chair, bleeding, and was later pronounced dead.
The shooter, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was arrested just two days later, facing multiple felony charges, including aggravated murder.
Chilling text messages between Robinson and his partner
Following the shooting, ABC News released text messages allegedly exchanged between Robinson and his partner, which painted a chilling picture of the lead-up to the murder.
One text allegedly revealed Robinson’s confession: “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it," per BBC News.
In response, his partner expressed shock, asking if he was joking. Robinson allegedly continued, saying he had hoped to keep the crime a secret until his death.
While the messages were undeniably incriminating, the network's correspondent Matt Gutman’s interpretation of them drew significant backlash.
During a press conference, Gutman described the texts as “touching,” calling them “an intimate portrait” of Robinson and his partner’s relationship.
He also emphasized the “duality” of the accused shooter's behavior, pointing out how he was allegedly plotting to murder Kirk while also expressing love for his partner in the texts.
Leavitt's bizarre theory about Kirk
While Kirk's death continues to unfold in the courts and media, a new layer of controversy was added by Leavitt.
The 38-year-old, who is currently accompanying President Donald Trump on a state visit to the UK, shared a bizarre theory about the Turning Point USA founder's death on her personal Instagram.
She shared a tweet from X, which read: "On the night Charlie was shot, a 4.1 earthquake struck Utah. In scripture, 40 represents trials; 41 signifies a shift. It hit at 5:57 local time, 7:57 Eastern.
"Acts 7:57 describes Stephen, the first martyr, stoned as the crowd silenced his truth. The Bible says the earth trembles when God is angry. That night, as a voice was silenced, the ground groaned," the post concluded. Leavitt reacted to the tweet with the single word “wow".
The mom-of-one's post was met with confusion and criticism, as one user wrote that her post was "absolutely bonkers," while another sarcastically said: "Well, that explains everything!"
Robinson faces multiple felony charges for the murder, including aggravated murder. This charge could carry the death penalty.
He is also charged with obstruction of justice and witness tampering, as he allegedly attempted to dispose of evidence and prevent his partner from speaking to law enforcement.
