Kyle Rittenhouse's mother revealed in an interview with Fox News that her son wants to be a "normal kid" after his acquittal on Friday.

Last week, the 18-year-old from Antioch, Illinois, was found not guilty on all counts in his homicide trial, after four days of deliberations by the jury.

Rittenhouse was 17 when he shot dead two men during a Black Lives Matter protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin last summer.

He was later charged with five felonies including first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless homicide, attempted first-degree intentional homicide, and two counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety.

From the outset, Rittenhouse had denied all the charges and said he acted in self-defense.

Now, in an interview with Fox News, the teenager's mother, Wendy, has said that her son just wants to be a "normal kid" again, which includes going to school and playing with his dog.

Wendy told the conservative news channel on Sunday, November 21, that although her son has been absolved of the charges laid against him in his homicide trial, she fears life will "be different for him" as there will be people out there who "want to hurt him."

"He wants to go to school. He wants to play with his dog, Milo, and be a normal kid," she said. In fact, Rittenhouse was set to study at Arizona State University before his highly publicized trial.

Elsewhere in her discussion with Fox News, Wendy said: "It's not about winning or losing. There were two people that did pass away and families have grieved."

She also said her son "does have remorse" about the events of last summer. "Talking to him now, he would have never gone down there if this would have ever happened again. He would never," she said.

Rittenhouse himself has given an interview since he was acquitted last week.

Speaking to Fox News host Tucker Carlson over the weekend, he insisted that he supports the Black Lives Matter movement despite having traveled to Kenosha in order to "protect" the city from BLM protestors on the day of the shooting.

Rittenhouse said: "This case has nothing to do with race. It had nothing to do with race, had to do with the right to self-defense."

He added: "I'm not a racist person, I support the BLM movement and peacefully demonstrating."
