A 28-year-old man tragically died in his parents' arms after being stabbed following a "hookup from hell".
According to reports from CBS News and others, the victim was identified by family as Robert “Bobby” Carragher, who was stabbed while he slept at a home in Massapequa.
Kristin Sculley, 22, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with Carragher's death, with police saying the pair had been friends "for several years" before the fateful night they went back to Carragher's home after spending time at a barr.
At a news conference on Tuesday, Nassau County Police Detective Lt. George Darienzo told reporters that Carragher was stabbed in the neck at around 1.30AM on Monday while he was asleep in bed.
Darienzo said: "We believe that this female individual made an arrangement. She was an acquaintance of our victim, who made an arrangement to get together that evening."
He added: "We believe the suspect in this case became angry towards our victim."
He said Carragher climbed the stairs after being stabbed and called out for help, which roused his parent, who tried to help stem the bleeding, but Carragher could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Darienzo describd Carragher's final moments, saying: "He climbed the stairs to seek the assistance of his mother, screaming. His mother and father came to his aid.
"They attempted to control that bleeding in the kitchen. At that point, their son became unresponsive."
Darienzo told reporters, per News 12: "He died in his father's arms. No family should ever have to bear witness to their son being killed in that manner."
Police took Sculley into custody after finding her hiding in the home with a pocketknife they believe may have been the weapon used to stab Carragher.
Sculley pleaded not guilty at her arraignment on Tuesday, June 2, and remains behind bars, according tp ABC 7.
Carragher's friend, Louis Ambrosio, told the outlet: "There's not much you can say. An innocent life was taken. Bobby lit up every room he walked into."
Sculley's attorney, Mindy Plotkin, told Newsday that her client may have acted in self-defense, stating: "I think self-defense is something that definitely has to be looked into in this case."
