Louisiana police have arrested a man after doorbell camera footage shows him choking his girlfriend's dog after the couple got into an argument.
The Ring security doorbell camera footage shows 30-year-old Shane Michael Mitchell outside girlfriend Rachelle Fassy's apartment on Sunday, with her pet dog on a leash.
However, after the couple became embroiled in an argument, his girlfriend informed him through the camera system that she had called the police, to which he responds: "I don't care."
The footage can be seen below (Warning: some readers will find it upsetting):Mitchell, seen wearing a green polo shirt, then pulls the dog - named Rubyjean - toward him, and proceeds to pick her off the ground by her leash, effectively choking her with her collar. Fassy can then be heard screaming through the Ring cam, pleading with him to stop.
Mitchell then took off with Rubyjean and refused to return the three-year-old Doberman pincher to his girlfriend, prompting authorities to launch a search.
Slidell Police Department eventually found Mitchell at an apartment complex in the area Tuesday and taken into custody without incident, police confirmed - sharing a picture of his arrest on Facebook.
Mitchell is now facing charges of animal cruelty.
Meanwhile, Rubyjean was found safe and returned to her rightful owner, according to police.
Writing on the Slidell Police Department Facebook page, "The beautiful sweet Rubyjean is safe! Shane Mitchell is in custody. We will post more information later this afternoon."
Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal said in a statement that Rubyjean had been returned to her rightful owner. He also commented on the disturbing video, saying:
"I was sick to my stomach watching that video. How someone can do hurt a defenseless animal is beyond me.
"I had the opportunity to meet Rubyjean this afternoon, and she was as sweet and well-mannered as could be. We are glad this had a happy ending for both the dog and her owner."
Fassy also shared a video to Facebook showing her reunited with Ruby, along with the caption:
"I want to personally thank each and everyone of y’all who made every attempt to lead me to my ruby! I esp want to give my biggest thank you to the Slidell police department for retrieving my dog and everyone that helped bring her back in the matter! Praying and having faith came a long way! Ruby is with me! We are headed home! Thankful no one was hurt anymore than what was! [sic]"
Fassy also confirmed in a follow-up post that Rubyjean has been checked over by a vet to make sure she was okay following the incident.
