A man who was accused of exposing himself and rubbing his genitals on a Whole Foods shopper has been arrested by police.
The disturbing incident occurred between 7:30 and 8:00PM on March 23 at the supermarket on Valencia Boulevard.
The store's surveillance camera showed a man approaching a woman as she knelt down to inspect an item. He then lowered his pants before putting his exposed genitals against the woman’s ear while holding what appears to be a phone.
Last month, the Sheriff’s Department shared a picture of the suspect and asked for the public's help in identifying him.
He was described as a man in his 30s, with black hair, brown eyes, standing around 6-foot-1, and weighing approximately 220 pounds.
Several people came forward, identifying the man as 28-year-old Jared Paul Estrada of Valencia, Orange County, and provided information such as his date of birth, phone number, vehicle, and his proximity to a local elementary school, the Santa Clarita Valley Signal reported.
On Monday (April 20), deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department detained the man, and he was taken into custody with the assistance of Crime Impact Team deputies, the police department revealed.
He was booked on suspicion of indecent exposure and sexual battery, according to Lt. Luis Molina, the watch commander at the Santa Clarita substation.
Per the Los Angeles Times, Estrada posted $100,000 bail and was released later that evening.
He is scheduled to appear in court in Valencia on Wednesday.
"At this time, investigators are not aware of any additional related incidents in the Santa Clarita area," police said, per CBS News.
In a statement released regarding the incident last month, a Whole Foods spokesperson said: "We are deeply concerned about the event that took place at our Valencia store on March 23," per the New York Post.
"We are fully cooperating with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in their investigation," the statement added. "We have provided all requested information to law enforcement."
The police thanked the public for the valuable tips and information they provided to assist investigators in locating the suspect.
