Last month (April 17), beaches and parks in Jacksonville, Florida, reopened - as more and more states began easing lockdown restrictions put in place as a method of "flattening the curve" caused by the global pandemic.
However, as reported by CNN, after the restrictions had been lifted, the scene at Jacksonville Beach was not one you'd expect to see in the midst of a worldwide pandemic, as many people continued to flout social distancing and lockdown measures.
Some residents told the news outlet that it was "torture" not being able to visit the beach, and in response to the lockdown being lifted, CNN reports that there were people swimming, biking, surfing, running, fishing, and sunbathing with towels and coolers - with very few of them wearing masks.
Now, in an effort to get the message across about the importance of social distancing, a Florida lawyer by the name of Daniel Uhlfelder has visited one of his state beaches... dressed as Death.
Donning the infamous black robes of the Grim Reaper, and walking around with a scythe in his hands, Uhlfelder's wants to make it clear that it is still too early to be hitting the beach and hanging out in crowds.
He explained to Panama City ABC affiliate WMBB: "I’m here today to try to make the point that it’s premature that we open our beaches.
"I’m a huge proponent of public beaches, and I’ve been fighting for that for years, but I think the danger of bringing all the people here to our area and spreading the virus [...] I think it’s going to prolong the recovery we have."
Last month, Uhlfelder revealed his plans to dress as The Reaper on Twitter.
Tweeting to his followers, Daniel said: "Many of you have asked if I am willing to travel around Florida wearing Grim Reaper attire to the beaches and other areas of the state opening up prematurely. The answer is absolutely yes. Beginning May 1 we will hit the road here in state. Please retweet and spread the word.
"We will use this as a campaign to ensure people know the importance of staying home while supporting Democrats running for federal office including Matt Gaetz opponent Democrat Phil Ehr and Democrat Christy Smith running in a special election May 12.
"Our goal is to raise $20,000 to contribute directly to federal candidates between now and May 1."
Uhlfelder has clearly drawn inspiration for his stunt from New Zealand's iconic public service campaign where a person does indeed dress up as the Swim Reaper in an effort to promote water safety and prevent deaths from drowning.
Writing on Instagram, the Swim Reaper states: "Just lovin life. lol. Nah, jokes. Lookin to reap some peeps this summer. If ur gonna make dumb decisions in the water, I’ll be waiting. Holla!"
