A mother has been arrested and charged after assaulting a student at her daughter's school.

Edith Riddle, 34, allegedly stormed into DuPont Middle School, in Jacksonville, US, wearing a boxing glove following a disagreement between her child and another pupil.

When she entered the school grounds, Riddle was reportedly accompanied by a male friend as well as a student from another school.

The three made their way to the school cafeteria where her daughter approached another student, aged 12, before pushing them to the ground.

Riddle is alleged to have also taken part in the assault, throwing "several punches to the victim's head" while wearing a boxing glove before she was pulled away by staff.

According to reports, Riddle told the school that the glove was "super-glued" onto her hand.

The victim was later taken to hospital for treatment after suffering cuts to her knees and forearms. Riddle was charged with one count of child abuse with a personal or special weapon.

Duval County School Police confirmed that the assault involved two adults, a high schooler, and a middle schooler.

Crystal Wiltsee, the mother of the injured student, is now questioning how two adults were able to gain access to the school.

She said: "The moment that she chose to touch this one, it's a whole other story – and she's just not to blame. I put the school to blame just as much as her because had they escorted the lady off the property when they showed up to the school in boxing gloves. That's not normal."

Wiltsee said of Riddle's arrest: "Now she's scared... It's complete and utter bullcrap."

Riddle, however, is not the first parent to assault a pupil at their child's school in this way.

Barry Lee Jones, 54, was arrested and charged with assault last year after slamming his son's opponent to the ground, believing that he had carried out an illegal move in a fight.

The Metro reports that his son, a student at Hickory Ridge High School in North Carolina, US, was competing in a wrestling match with a student from the rival  Southeast Guilford High School.

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association said the referee had given the hand signal to call the move-out.

Sharon Contreras, the Superintendent of Schools for Guilford County, told Fox 8: "It's very unfortunate, and it just shows a society that I feel sometimes we're just losing all decorum.

"I want to say that the parents from that high school wrote us a lovely letter saying they were equally appalled."
