A shocking video reveals the moment armed car thieves opened fire at a family while trying to steal a vehicle with children inside.
The doorbell camera footage obtained by local news station WAPT shows two men walking up to a family as they said their goodbyes in the driveway of their home in West Jackson, Mississippi.
A gunshot can be heard as a woman named Heather Allen and her adult son hide behind the car while the suspects creep closer.
The distressing clip then shows one of the carjackers opening the driver’s door and pulling out a young girl before getting behind the wheel.
Watch the video below:Heather spoke to WAPT about the harrowing incident, sharing that after the man shot the first fire, she "threw [her] hands up like, 'Hey, hey, hey,' and he just pulled [her] down".
While the mother and one of her sons were outside the car, her oldest son, daughter, and two grandchildren remained inside the vehicle.
"They kept hollering, 'Give me the keys, give me the keys.' My daughter was like, 'My babies, my babies are in the car,'" she said. "He jumps in the driver's seat, I'm standing on the outside looking in, and he points a gun at my oldest boy's face."
The brave woman managed to get her grandchildren out of the backseat while one of the suspects repeatedly yelled for the keys.
To get the armed men to leave, Heather then tossed her keys on the ground so that they could take her vehicle instead.
The Jackson Police Department located the woman's car about 40 minutes after the harrowing events took place. It was found largely undamaged and left two blocks away.
“The cop said that the car looks good, but it’s in the impound lot. I can’t get it until they investigate it for fingerprints,” Allen said.
The family has only lived in the area for about three months, but now Heather said she wants to move out of Jackson.
"I'm not sleeping. My oldest son, his anxiety is through the roof - he's even scared. My daughter, she has shock, but they're safe. They are in Batesville right now," she said, adding, “We can’t stay here anymore."
According to The Independent, Jackson police Chief Joseph Wade disclosed that two people in connection to the incident have been identified by cops. The individuals are not in custody and no arrests have been made.
“I had an opportunity to look at the video of Ms. Allen and her family being robbed and carjacked in their driveway,” Chief Wade said. “It was extremely disturbing to me. It was very concerning to me because a threat to them and their family is a threat to everyone.”
