A shooting inside a Chick-fil-A has left multiple people injured after a group of masked men reportedly stormed the restaurant and opened fire.
The violence broke out just before 9PM on Saturday (April 11) at the fast food chain located at 2139 US 22 in Union, New Jersey. The town is located just over 15 miles outside of New York City.
Police quickly locked down the scene as cops flooded the area, with reports suggesting some workers were still inside while officers began their investigation.
A man who said his girlfriend works at the restaurant told CBS News New York that a group of masked men charged inside and began shooting after getting behind the counter.
Another witness named Martin, a Lyft driver, described the frightening moment he heard more than seven shots. He told ABC: "I finished my trip over there, in the return zone.
"I heard the shots. When I finished the trip, I go to Chick-fil-A to buy two burgers - I see the police, I heard the shots very close," he added.
One worker’s father called the scene a "warzone" and claimed several of his son’s co-workers had been hurt.
According to reports from The Sun, at least six people were shot, and one person, who has not been identified, was tragically killed.
A heavy police presence remains at the location, with police canvassing the parking lot and sealing off the surrounding area as part of the investigation.
Officials have not yet released more information about the shooting, including any details about suspects, possible motive, or whether anyone has been taken into custody.
The Union County Prosecutor’s Office is reportedly leading the case, with spokesperson Lauren Farinas confirming that they are conducting "an active and ongoing investigation," adding: "More information will be released as it becomes available."
Former New Jersey Assemblyman Jamel Holley also addressed the incident, saying: "Numerous people are injured & one confirmed dead as emergency crews are on the scene responding to a mass shooting after gunfire erupted inside a Chick-fil-A in Union, New Jersey."
The investigation is ongoing.
