A mass stabbing just miles from the U.S. Capitol has left multiple people hospitalized, with police locking down several city blocks in northeast Washington, D.C.
Per Fox 5 DC, emergency services swarmed the area of Meigs Place and Montello Avenue NE on Thursday afternoon, April 3, after the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) received reports of a violent stabbing spree.
Authorities confirmed that seven adults were rushed to the hospital. None of the victims have died, according to MPD spokesperson Tom Lynch.
The scene unfolded less than two miles from Capitol Hill, prompting a massive response from law enforcement. A suspect has been arrested, and police confirmed via social media that they are conducting a full "stabbing investigation" at Montello Avenue and Simms Place NE. A public information officer was dispatched to the scene, with a press conference expected.
Images from the area showed yellow caution tape stretching across the street as officers crowded the sidewalk. A gurney was spotted on a nearby street corner, and onlookers stood nearby speaking with police. Several blocks were shut down, and authorities urged the public to avoid the area.
A police statement issued on social media read: "MPD is on scene of numerous people stabbed in the area of Meigs Pl & Montello Ave NE. One suspect has been arrested. PIO en route to the scene."
Police have not yet released the suspect’s identity, nor have they disclosed any motive behind the attack. The investigation remains active.
