One eerie detail from Nancy Guthrie’s home security video could give away identity of suspect
The investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie has now entered its tenth day, and new clues may be emerging that could help authorities track down the person responsible.
On Tuesday, authorities released images and videos of a masked individual, who was seen tampering with the doorbell camera outside Guthrie’s home. An expert analysis of this footage reveals important details that could be crucial in identifying the suspect.
Former CIA officer and FBI special agent Tracy Walder provided insights into the released video, noting the suspect’s gait. “I think [the suspect’s] gait is interesting,” Walder explained to Page Six. “While [their] walk is not overly distinctive, I do think that’s something the FBI could look at.”
The expert also observed the suspect's lack of night vision glasses, despite wearing a mask. “I’m shocked [they] didn’t have some kind of night vision glasses to deter [their] eyes,” she added, which could be another valuable lead for investigators.
Suspect's appearance and actions raise concerns for investigators
In addition to Walder’s observations, the FBI can also rely on more specific details, such as the suspect’s shoes, height, and overall body type, which could help create a physical profile. Walder noted that the suspect’s actions in the footage suggest the kidnapping was planned.
“This is a person who came with a backpack, came with a weapon. They aren’t there to steal anything,” Walder said. “Nancy was the target. This video really illustrates that.”
The suspect is seen adjusting the camera, attempting to conceal it with foliage, and eventually removing the camera from the front door. This mistake has already led to valuable information being recovered, including previously inaccessible footage.
Longtime private investigator Andy Kay pointed out that by ripping off the camera, the suspect inadvertently helped authorities recover important video evidence. Kay described the suspect as a “rookie,” highlighting the errors made during the kidnapping.
Ransom demand and continued investigation into Nancy Guthrie's disappearance
On February 1, Nancy Guthrie was reported missing after failing to attend a church service, and investigators quickly suspected that she had been abducted in her sleep. Authorities found a trail of blood outside her home, which they confirmed belonged to her.
The kidnapper later sent a ransom note demanding $6 million in bitcoin, with a deadline for payment set for February 9.
Since then, there has been no further communication from the suspect. Authorities have continued their investigation, including collecting DNA from workers hired at the Guthrie family’s home, in hopes of uncovering additional leads.
As the search for Nancy continues, her family, including her daughter Savannah Guthrie, has remained vocal in their pleas for her safe return, sharing images of the suspect in hopes that someone will recognize them.
