A newly surfaced video angle has added more fuel to the national firestorm surrounding the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old woman killed by an ICE officer in Minneapolis.
Captured from near the incident, the footage appears to show Good clipping an officer with her SUV before he opens fire through her open window.
Moments after the shots were fired, Good’s vehicle crashed into a parked white car roughly 100 feet away.
The Department of Homeland Security quickly rallied behind its agent, with assistant secretary for public affairs Tricia McLaughlin stating, “weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them,” calling it “an act of domestic terrorism.”
But that’s not how everyone sees it.
New Angle Casts Doubt
Angles of the incident that are being shared online have caused intense backlash, as it appears to show Good attempting to flee the scene as opposed to endangering the ICE agents.
Footage shows one officer attempting to enter Good's vehicle, and this triggers her to reverse, turn her wheels to the right, and attempt to flee.
Another officer is standing in front of her car, with her wheels now pointed in a direction away from him.
As she pulls off, she clips the officer with her vehicle, but the force of the impact does not knock him off his feet, as he is able to fire a shot through her front window, before following up with two more through the side window as Good attempts to exit the situation.
While Donald Trump has publicly condemned Good as an "agitator", others claim this angle shows she did not intend to harm the agent before he fatally shot her.
One user commented: "Murder. Plain and simple. There are times we can no longer stay silent. This is the time. This is murder."
A second said: "That wasn’t self defence. That was retaliation/anger that she was getting away. They should all prosecuted."
The clip below contains footage that some may find distressing:
ICE shooting sparks outrage and accusations of ‘criminal murder’
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez didn’t mince words, calling the incident “a public murder” and saying: “What we saw today was a criminal murder a woman and shoot her in the head while she was trying to escape and flee for her life.”
She also described the killing as the “manifestation of every American’s worst nightmare.”
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey didn’t hold back either.
In a press conference, he took direct aim at ICE, saying: “To ICE, get the f*** out of Minneapolis. They are not here to cause safety in this city. What they are doing is not to provide safety in America. What they are doing is causing chaos and distrust.”
He added: “They’re ripping families apart. They’re sowing chaos on our streets and in this case quite literally killing people.”
Frey was also quick to reject any claims of self-defense, saying: “They are already trying to spin this as an action of self defense. Having seen the video myself, I wanna tell everybody directly, that is bullsh*t.”
Good's mother, Donna Ganger, confirmed her daughter’s identity to the Minnesota Star Tribune, describing her as “an amazing human being” and “one of the kindest people I’ve ever known.”
“She was extremely compassionate. She’s taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate,” Ganger said. She added: “She was probably terrified."
Good was a mother of three and a poet. At the time of her death, she was living with her wife, Becca Good, in Minnesota, Telegraph reported.
