Pam Bondi breaks silence with major claim after Trump unexpectedly fired her as attorney general
US Attorney General Pam Bondi spoke out just hours after President Donald Trump revealed, via Truth Social, that she had been removed from her position. Reports had already emerged the previous day suggesting Trump intended to dismiss his longtime ally, partly over her handling of the Epstein files and other issues.
On Thursday, Trump confirmed she would be leaving government and “moving into the private sector,” while Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche would take over as Acting Attorney General until a permanent replacement is chosen.
Bondi's response to removal from Trump administration
Bondi responded on X later that day, saying: “Over the next month I will be working tirelessly to transition the office of Attorney General to the amazing Todd Blanche before moving to an important private sector role I am thrilled about, and where I will continue fighting for President Trump and this Administration.”
In his statement, Trump praised her record, calling her a “Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year.” He added: “Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900."
He continued: “We love Pam, and she will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future, and our Deputy Attorney General, and a very talented and respected Legal Mind, Todd Blanche, will step in to serve as Acting Attorney General.”
Who is likely to assume Bondi's position?
According to reports, Trump is now considering Lee Zeldin, currently head of the Environmental Protection Agency, as a possible replacement.
Sources claim Bondi was informed of her dismissal the evening before the public announcement—shortly before Trump addressed the nation in a primetime speech about the Iran conflict. An unnamed senior official told The Daily Mail that she urged him to reconsider, but he did not change his mind.
Earlier that same day, Trump and Bondi had appeared together at the US Supreme Court ahead of a ruling that struck down his effort to end birthright citizenship as part of his immigration agenda.
There are also reports that the two had a heated argument the previous week, though details about the disagreement remain unclear. Her removal follows other recent shakeups, including the reported departure of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and speculation that National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard could also be dismissed over a social media controversy tied to the administration’s actions in Iran.
After the news broke, Representative Robert Garcia, a senior member of the House Oversight Committee, said Bondi’s exit would not exempt her from testifying before the committee about the Epstein files.
