In a sit-down with ABC News’ Terry Moran, Trump took a moment to reflect on his presidency and show off the Declaration of Independence during a tour of the White House. Seems innocent enough — until he opened his mouth.
Trump said: “It means exactly what it says, it is a declaration, it is a declaration of unity and love, and it means a lot. It is something very special to our country.”
Unity and… love?
While historians collectively screamed into the void, social media users did what they do best: flooded the internet with their reactions.
Watch the moment below:Let’s just be clear — the Declaration of Independence wasn’t exactly a “peace and love” kind of moment.
It was more of a bold breakup letter to the British Empire, dripping in defiance and fury.
Still, Trump stuck to his guns.
“It is a declaration of unity and love,” he said, looking dead serious.
The reaction? Utter disbelief, and a whole lot of memes.
One person simply said: "Trump's never read the declaration of Independence."
Another Twitter user broke it down like this: “Founding fathers: ‘King George is a tyrant! To arms!’ Patrick Henry: ‘Give me liberty or give me death!’ Trump: ‘Let’s write a love note.’”
A third posted: “Trump believes that the Declaration of Independence is a declaration of unity, love and respect. The leader of the world's oldest democracy doesn't know what's written in the founding document of the United States. WTAF. Trump's ignorance is stunning, staggering & a disgrace."

Someone else took it even further: “A declaration of unity, love and respect. Trump hasn't read the US Declaration of Independence and he doesn't understand what was explained to him in grade school. The founding document of the USA is a list of 27 grievances and an eloquent f**k off to King George III and Colonial Great Brittan."
And then there was this: “Imagine having the Declaration of Independence and never having read the Declaration of Independence. I remember memorizing that b***h in the fifth grade. ‘We hold these truths to be self evident’ mother f***er. Sometimes I really don't think he's American.”
