Previously unseen pictures released by Department of Justice show Jeffrey Epstein's body with ripped clothes after death in prison
New documents related to Jeffrey Epstein's death were released by the Department of Justice on February 3, 2026. These documents, which include photos and investigative reports, offer a disturbing look at the final moments of the financier's life.
The documents were part of a mass release and provide unsettling images taken during the CPR efforts after Epstein was found hanged in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in Brooklyn on August 10, 2019. Epstein's death, which occurred while he was awaiting trial on serious charges, has remained a point of intense scrutiny and conspiracy theories.
The newly disclosed pictures offer a grim glimpse into the moments after his body was discovered. They show the late financier with medical equipment, including an oxygen tank, IV drip, and electrode pads attached to his chest.
The images also capture the damage caused by the noose made from prison garb, highlighting the deep cuts on Epstein's neck and the extent of the injuries. These newly revealed documents also include accounts from FBI agents and corrections officers, detailing the sequence of events that led to Epstein's death.
Details from the investigation and photos taken at the scene
Among the released documents are two key reports. The first is a death investigation by the FBI’s New York Field Office, while the second comes from the Lieutenant’s Office of the Metropolitan Correctional Center. One photograph shows Epstein lying on a gurney with medical staff performing CPR.
The 66-year-old's shirt is ripped open, and TENS pads are visible on his chest. He also has an oxygen mask and IV line attached to him in an attempt to revive him. Another image shows the disturbing condition of Epstein’s face, which had become bloated and discolored after hanging.
The photographs also show Epstein's cell after the discovery of his body. A strip of orange prison fabric, which is believed to have been used as the makeshift noose, remains attached to the metal bed frame.
The images from the scene also show extensive damage to Epstein’s thyroid cartilage, which had been fractured during the hanging. These graphic images, alongside the detailed investigative reports, offer a closer look at the final moments of Epstein’s life and add to the mystery surrounding his death.
Events leading up to Epstein’s death
According to the documents, Epstein had a relatively uneventful day leading up to the discovery of his body. On the morning of August 9, 2019, he appeared in court for a legal matter, and in the afternoon, his cellmate was removed from the cell, never to return.
The following evening, Epstein made a 20-minute phone call, though the report does not specify to whom. The next morning, at approximately 6:33 a.m., a body alarm went off, and officers reported that Epstein had hung himself.
The officers involved in the incident were reportedly unaware that they had missed their rounds at 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., which was confirmed by one officer who stated, “We messed up.”
Epstein was quickly transferred to a medical area, where resuscitation efforts were made, but no pulse was found. His death was officially recorded at 7:36 a.m. at Beekman Hospital.
Epstein's death remains controversial, and the newly released photos and investigative reports have only deepened the speculation surrounding the circumstances of his passing. While officially ruled a suicide, many continue to question the events leading up to that fateful day in his jail cell.
