Karoline Leavitt's fashion choices on her final day as White House Press Secretary have been explained by a fashion expert.
The mom of two waved goodbye to her role in the Trump Administration on Thursday (August 27), speaking to reporters for the final time on the White House lawn.
Leavitt looked happy to be moving to a life out of the public eye, and chose to wear a slim-fitting navy knee-length dress, matched with classic white pumps and simple gold jewelry.
Apparently, there's a reason behind her simple choices, choosing to avoid any eye-catching colors or designs.
Fashion expert Dawn Del Russo, who has worked in the industry for 15 years, admitted she was shocked to see Leavitt in the low-key fit on such an important day.
She suggested that it may have been done to blend in more, admitting she was 'surprised' to see the darker dress on show.
Speaking to the U.S. Sun, Del Russo said: “I was surprised to see a darker navy blue for her final day.
“It’s a little bit more conservative. She’s trying to not draw too much attention.”
The expert explained that Leavitt usually opts for solid colors, such as the red and gold dress that she wore at Joint Base Andrews alongside President Donald Trump last week.
Del Russo said that the navy dress has some of the clean lines she usually goes for, but the coloring has a different effect, as she said: “I think that’s the look that she wanted to go for for this,
“It’s one of those moments in time where, you know, she is stepping away from the position and there’s you there’s so much talk around that.
“I think she wanted to keep the outfit as simple and understated as possible.”
As for her jewelry, the expert said it highlighted her new priorities in life, as she sported a beaded friendship-style bracelet with “Mama” spelled out.
“I think that was a nod to why she’s possibly leaving," the expert said, adding: “She’s spoken a lot about how she has two children under two and she wants to spend more time at home.
“Wearing that bracelet really says that.”
Earlier this August, Leavitt announced that she was stepping down as the youngest press secretary in history, so she could spend more time with her family.
“I have felt in my heart that I cannot be the best mom my two young children deserve while devoting the constant time, energy, and attention required of the White House Press Secretary,” Leavitt stated after her maternity leave.
She called it a 'bittersweet decision' and said the past year and a half had been the experience of a lifetime.
Leavitt confirmed yesterday that Trump hasn't yet selected her replacement, though she is set to join MAGA Inc., the president’s super PAC.
