Ryan Mallett, former NFL quarterback, dies aged 35

Ryan Mallett has sadly died at the age of 35.

The sports world is reeling from the sudden loss of Mallett, the ex-NFL and University of Arkansas quarterback, who has tragically died at just 35 years old in Destin, Florida.

As reported by PEOPLE, the devastating news was confirmed on Tuesday by the White Hall School District in Arkansas, where Mallett had recently taken up a role as the head football coach.

The School District shared their heartfelt condolences on their official Facebook page, saying: "It is with great sadness that we share the loss of Coach Ryan Mallett. Coach Mallett was a beloved coach and educator."

They continued: "We ask that you remember his family, team, students, fellow coaches, and the White Hall School District staff in your prayers."

Back in his college days, the star Texas High prospect was the offensive MVP of the Liberty Bowl in 2010 and secured a place in the All-SEC second team in both 2009 and 2010.

Mallett's successful sports career began at the University of Arkansas and led him to be selected by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Mallett, once a backup to the legendary Tom Brady, was traded to the Houston Texans by the Patriots in 2014. His former Texans teammate J.J. Watt, expressed his sorrow on Twitter, writing, "Rest in Peace brother."

Watt added: "Horrible news to read about Ryan Mallett. Gone way too soon."

Brady also took to Instagram to share a message on his Stories, writing alongside a photo of his former teammate: "Praying for the Mallett family and all their loved ones tonight."

From 2015 through 2017, Mallett showcased his talent playing for the Baltimore Ravens.

Reacting to the shocking news, the New England Patriots tweeted: "The New England Patriots are deeply saddened to learn of the sudden and unexpected passing of former quarterback Ryan Mallett. Our thoughts are with the Mallett family, his former teammates and all who are mourning his loss."

During his time with the Ravens, Mallett made appearances in eight games over three seasons, throwing for 648 yards and four touchdowns to three interceptions, as per Sports Illustrated.
