A Michigan has resigned in spectacular fashion - slamming his school board in an impassioned speech over "damaging" policies.
Last month, Sean McCarroll - a teacher at Grosse Pointe North High School in Detroit - spoke to a meeting of the school board last month, where he proceeded to roast the members over their safety policies amid the ongoing pandemic.
Per WDIV-TV, McCarroll's speech came after the Grosse Pointe Public Schools Board of Education board voted 6-1 to implement new Covid policies.
These included changing the definition of "close contact" from 'six feet' down to 'three feet' and lowering the mandated quarantine for students who come into close contact with those who had tested positive for Covid from two weeks to just 10 days.
Watch the powerful speech in the video below:After taking to the mic at the board meeting, McCarroll snapped at the members for trusting the teachers' abilities to react in the instance of a school shooting, but not the "educational decisions that are in the best interested of [their] students".
The outgoing teacher then went on the berate the board members for "disregarding" educators, telling them:
"You tell us after your meetings that you 'so appreciate and respect us,' well I cry bulls**t.
"You don't respect us. If you respected us, you'd listen to us. You don't appreciate us. If you did, you wouldn't make our jobs literally impossible to do.
"If you cared, you would pretend that you're listening, at least."
After listing his extensive professional achievements, McCarroll then blasted the board for allegedly taking the advice from those outside of the classroom.
For example, according to WJBK, many of the teachers had requested to teach virtually for two weeks following an increase in Covid cases in April. However, the board reportedly voted to "relax protocols" and maintain in-person learning.
McCarroll then told the members: "We are not angry about the situation - we can’t control Covid - we’re angry at you.
"Angry is a nice way of putting it. You’ve done more damage to our students, our district, and our profession in the last 12 months than we’ve seen in the last decade."
McCarroll ended his speech by revealing that he has handed in his resignation, before asking the board: "How many teachers need to leave before you start to listen?"
This is a man who cares about the job, not the paycheck!
