The US saw a deadly weekend with at least 10 mass shootings taking place.
Those 10 mass shootings resulted in a combined 17 people losing their lives, and a further 33 people wounded.
Additionally, data from Gun Violence Archive (GVA), local media, and police reports showed that 117 people lost their lives and 303 people were wounded as a result of gun crime in a 72-hour period.
The deadliest incident took place when a gunman opened fire on Sunday, May 9, at a family birthday party in Colorado Springs and took the lives of six people.
Police said that the suspected gunman, who was dating one of his victims, also died.
"Words fall short to describe the tragedy that took place this morning," Colorado Springs Police Chief Vince Niski said in a statement cited by CNN. "From the officers who responded to the shooting to the investigators still on scene, we are all left incredibly shaken."
