In the wake of the apparent "assassination attempt" on Donald Trump, TIME Magazine's recent front cover has left people creeped out on social media.

On Sunday (September 15), the 78-year-old former president once again became the victim of what the FBI and Secret Service have described as an "assassination attempt".

The incident took place while the Republican presidential candidate was golfing at his Trump International Golf Club at West Palm Beach in Florida.

Trump had been accompanied by Secret Service agents during his game. While a Secret Service agent scoped Trump's next hole, they spotted a gunman hiding in the surrounding bushes.

Opening fire on the suspect, the gunman fled the scene in a black Nissan vehicle, but was quickly apprehended by officers on 1-95 and placed in custody. No charges have been brought against him as of this writing.

Trump later confirmed in an email to his followers that he was "safe and well", and commended his accompanying Secret Service agents in a post on Truth Social.

Authorities later confirmed that they had discovered an AK-47-style rifle with a scope attached and two backpacks tied to the surrounding fence, which contained ceramic tiles. A GoPro camera found also mounted to the fence - with Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw telling reporters that authorities believe the suspect intended to record his actions.

Now, in the wake of the alarming incident, a recent TIME Magazine cover for its September issue has sparked a huge conversation among social media users.

Released just days prior on September 11, the cover shows a Tim O’Brien illustration showing Donald Trump dressed in his golf attire behind the wheel of a golf buggy - stranded in a sand pit.

The prophetic headline accompanying the image: "Big Trouble".

Given just how close together the unveiling of the magazine cover and the concerning incident at Trump's golf club were, social media users were quick to flood TIME's Instagram comment section.

People shared comments that ranged from utter disbelief to outlandish conspiracy theories.

"This is what we call demonic prophecy," one person wrote.

A second added: "Interesting how this came and now there was a second attempt to assassinate Trump while on the golf course."

"Damn, it’s almost like there’s a script," one Instagram user wrote.

Others branded the magazine cover "suspicious", "awkward", and "deranged".

Back on July 13, Trump was lucky to escape with just an injured ear when he was targeted by 20-year-old gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks during a rally near Butler, Pennsylvania.

One rally-goer lost his life amid the gunfire.
