Trump fires back with blistering statement after approval ratings reveal what America thinks of him 10 months into his presidency
Donald Trump has lashed out in response to new approval ratings showing a significant dip in his popularity just 10 months into his second presidency. The new figures, which were published by The Economist, show a concerning trend for the president as more Americans express disapproval of his leadership. The poll, which places his net approval rating at -17 percent, indicates that a growing number of people are dissatisfied with his administration.
As expected, Trump is not taking the negative polling results lightly. Known for his fiery responses to unfavorable surveys, the president quickly took to Truth Social to voice his frustration. In his posts, he called the polls "fake" and argued that the numbers were misleading. Despite the current approval ratings, Trump remains confident in his leadership, frequently pointing to what he sees as the successes of his administration, including economic growth, strong border control, and a reduction in energy prices.
Trump’s stance on approval polls
In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump rejected the poll results, suggesting that they did not reflect reality. He claimed, "After winning THREE Elections, BY A LOT, I am now getting the best Polling Numbers that I have ever received." Despite winning the 2016 and 2024 elections, Trump continues to contend that the 2020 election was rigged, a point he reiterated in his posts.
Trump further elaborated on his grievances, highlighting economic improvements, what he considers a secure border, and other points he believes should resonate with voters.
"People see how strong the Economy is, the Trillions of Dollars of Investment pouring into our Country, the Record Setting Strong Border (After years of millions of criminals pouring through it, totally unvetted and unchecked!)," he wrote. He also decried what he perceives as bias in the media and political landscape, accusing "Radical Left Losers" of spreading false polls that underestimate his popularity.
Disapproval grows despite Trump’s confidence
Although Trump's approval rating sits at a disappointing -17 percent, the president remains defiant, dismissing the validity of polling. The latest data is not an outlier; it mirrors trends from his first presidency, where his approval ratings also fluctuated around similarly low numbers.
The president’s combative response to such polling shows his continuing frustration with media coverage and public opinion, and with a shutdown ongoing, it’s unclear if these figures will improve in the coming months.
As the approval ratings continue to reflect dissatisfaction with his administration, Trump’s defensive stance may only amplify the growing divide between his supporters and detractors. For now, it appears that his second term will be marked by the same contentious relationship with public opinion that defined much of his first.
