Donald Trump chased after a toddler who was heading for the edge of a stage during a speech in Las Vegas on Wednesday, grabbed him before he fell, and then immediately turned it into a joke about Joe Biden.
"I don't want him to be Biden and fall off the stage," Trump told the crowd at the Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa, drawing a roar of laughter from the audience.
Biden, who is 83 and currently living privately while managing stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer, has not responded.
Trump was in the Summerlin neighbourhood of Las Vegas to promote his economic agenda and stump for Republican candidates ahead of November's midterms. Part of the event was about his 'no tax on tips' policy, which he signed into law last year and which helped him win Nevada in 2024.
To illustrate how the tax breaks work for real families, he invited a local couple and their two young children onto the stage.
Sandra, a casino waitress who has worked in the service industry for 15 years, and Brad, an officer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Sandra stepped up to the microphone. Her son had other plans. While she was talking, the toddler slipped away from his dad and started wandering straight towards the steps at the edge of the stage.
Trump spotted it before anyone else did.
He broke away from where he was standing, went after the boy, and pulled him back before he reached the edge. The crowd cheered. Trump handed the kid back to his parents. Then came the Biden line.
This was the other moment that went viral. After Sandra finished speaking, she told Trump her son had a few words for him. The boy leaned into the microphone and said: "Thank you for my Trump Account."
Trump Accounts are tax-advantaged investment accounts that can be opened for American children under 18. Kids born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, can receive a one-time $1,000 federal seed contribution.
Parents, relatives, and employers can add to the account after that, with the money invested rather than sitting as a one-off payment.
The toddler's delivery got a bigger reaction than most of Trump's own lines. Trump did his signature dance as he left the stage afterwards.
Good question. Biden left office 18 months ago. He is in his 80s. He has cancer. He is not a political rival in any meaningful sense anymore.
But Trump has never stopped.
The Biden fall material has been a staple of his rallies and public appearances since at least 2023, when Biden tripped over a sandbag at the Air Force Academy graduation ceremony.
Biden had previously mocked Trump in 2020 for walking carefully down a ramp at West Point, saying: "Look at how he steps and look at how I step. Watch how I run up ramps and he stumbles down ramps. Come on."
That clip resurfaced after Biden's own fall. Trump has referenced it repeatedly since.
Some commentators have suggested the Biden jokes serve as a deflection. Trump's own health has drawn increasing scrutiny this year, including persistent questions about bruising on his hands, late-night Truth Social posting patterns, and the fact that he was not seen in public for a full week in June.
He turned 80 in June and has gained 14 pounds in the past year. Making fun of Biden's physical frailty keeps the spotlight on the other guy.
Others think it is simpler than that. Trump just enjoys it.

Supporters called it quick thinking and classic Trump.
"There'll never be another like him," one wrote alongside the clip, which was shared by Fox News and went viral within minutes.
Critics said he took a genuinely nice moment and made it about scoring points off an elderly man with cancer.
The Mirror described it as turning 'a sweet moment into an alarming joke'.
Others pointed out that Trump, at 80, is hardly immune to the kinds of physical incidents he was mocking.
The toddler, for his part, seemed completely fine about the whole thing. He got his line in, thanked the President for his investment account, and left the stage to applause.
He is probably the only person who came out of the whole thing looking good.

Donald Trump has been praised for his response to President Biden taking a nasty-looking fall on Thursday.
The 80-year-old POTUS had been visiting the US Air Force Academy on Thursday (June 1) to hand out diplomas at a graduation ceremony.
Unfortunately, the celebratory day became a cause of concern when Biden went to take his seat, only to stumble and fall over a sandbag. Sadly, the President fell forward and landed on his right hip.
After being helped up, Biden made his way to his seat where he gave a reassuring thumbs up.
You can watch the moment below:Several White House officials then provided a further update on Biden - who is the nation's oldest serving leader -with communications director Ben LaBolt swiftly responding on Twitter, saying: "He's fine. There was a sandbag on stage while he was shaking hands."
Additionally, WH press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that Biden boarded the plane from the event with "a big smile."
Perhaps as expected, the fall also led to many social media users questioning whether or not Biden's age is becoming a factor in his ability to serve as president.
However, perhaps the most surprising reaction of all has come from former President Donald Trump - Biden's former political rival and potential Republican frontrunner for the 2024 Presidential Election.
Trump has never been one to shy away from criticizing Biden, but after learning that his rival had taken a tumble, the 76-year-old actually had a very considerate response.
While speaking at a campaign event in Iowa, footage shows a member of the audience informing Trump that Biden had fallen over earlier that day. After clarifying that the incident had, in fact, taken place, Trump says: "Well, I hope he wasn't hurt. I hope he wasn't hurt."
Despite seeming to garner a few sniggers from the crowd, Trump's words came across as genuine.
In fact, he then went on to poke fun at himself, saying: "The whole thing is -- look, the whole thing is crazy. You've got to be careful about that because you don't - you don't want that. Even if you have to tiptoe down a ramp..."
Trump, of course, was joking about the huge coverage he received in the media after footage of him slowly walking down a ramp back in 2020 went viral.
He would go on to address the footage multiple times, saying in one tweet: "The ramp that I descended after my West Point Commencement speech was very long & steep, had no handrail and, most importantly, was very slippery. The last thing I was going to do is ‘fall’ for the Fake News to have fun with. Final ten feet I ran down to level ground. Momentum!"
Trump's comments regarding his rival have also been praised by social media users, with one person writing: "He was very kind in his reply."
A second replied: "Refreshing to see him being civil and mildly compassionate."
A third praised Trump, saying: "That was nice. Hoped he wasn’t hurt and made a little fun of himself."
Trump said I hope he wasn’t hurt…I know Donald Trump has said a lot of hateful things but it’s nice to see this humane side," tweeted a fourth. "I wish we’d hear this more often especially in these times where everyone wants all this extreme hate against each other. It’s time to come together."
And even Florida Governor Ron DeSantis - who has also made his bid for the presidency - shared his best wishes for Biden during a campaign event in New Hampshire, saying: "We hope and wish Joe Biden a swift recovery from any injuries he may have sustained."
Despite what often feels like a very politically divided world, it just goes to show that - despite our differences - we can still look out for one another.

Speaking at the Detroit Economic Club on Tuesday, Trump was expected to zero in on the economy - but he couldn’t resist turning his attention to his predecessor.
"You ever notice Joe would cough before his speech?" Trump quipped, before mimicking Biden’s throat-clear with a series of exaggerated, guttural groans, per the Daily Mail.
He then took aim at Biden’s 2024 State of the Union performance: "One time they had him spruced up pretty good," Trump said. "He was high as a kite. He was floating. He was up there, way up. That was a bad speech."
The former president didn’t stop at mocking Biden’s delivery. He also criticized the 83-year-old’s subdued tone during his final year in office, contrasting it with his own freewheeling style.
"I go off teleprompter 80 percent of the time," Trump said. "Isn't it nice to have a president who can go off teleprompter?"
Switching gears, Trump then leaned into his self-proclaimed economic wins, drawing a bold line between his agenda and Biden’s.
"In four years of Biden, they secured less than $1 trillion of new investment in the United States," he said. "In less than one year, I have secured commitments for over $18 trillion dollars from all over the world - the most ever for any country."
He continued with a breakdown of how wages have changed: "After real wages plummeted by $3,000 under sleepy Joe Biden, real wages are up by $1,300 in less than one year under President Trump. For construction workers, wages are up $1,800... factory workers, over $2,000 - and for many other workers, over $5,000!"
The event had all the hallmarks of a classic Trump rally. As “God Bless the USA” by Lee Greenwood blared through the speakers, Trump strolled onstage with a grin.
And when it was time to exit, he grooved to the Village People’s 'YMCA,' capping off his appearance with his trademark fist-pumping dance.
Over the 45-minute speech, Trump shifted seamlessly between domestic wins, foreign policy plans, and blistering attacks on political rivals.
"Inflation is defeated," Trump announced, pointing to a recent report showing the rate sitting at 2.7 percent.
While the Federal Reserve typically aims to keep inflation at 2 percent annually, this marked a significant drop from the 9 percent peak seen under Biden in June 2022.
But Trump wasn’t done taking names.
"That jerk will be gone soon," he said, referring to Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. Powell is now under a criminal investigation by Trump’s Justice Department, allegedly tied to his testimony about the costly renovation of the Fed’s D.C. headquarters.
Critics claim the probe is politically motivated, linked to Powell’s refusal to cave to Trump’s demands for lower interest rates.
Powell responded in a video address, saying: "This unprecedented action should be seen in the broader context of the administration's threats and ongoing pressure."
The renovation project is reportedly on track to become the most expensive building upgrade in the history of Washington, D.C.
Donald Trump might be regretting some of the things he mocked Joe Biden for after suffering a slight mishap of his own.
The US President had a less-than-graceful moment this weekend when he nearly face-planted while climbing the steps to Air Force One.
Trump was gripping the handrail as he made his way up to the aircraft, when his left foot caught the edge of a step. He stumbled, caught himself with a quick hand to the rail, and powered through like nothing happened.
But, of course, it definitely happened... and the cameras caught it all.
The video made its rounds online within hours, showing Trump momentarily losing his footing before continuing up the stairs. A still photographer also snapped the moment mid-stumble, and the internet wasted no time putting it on blast.
Now, to be fair, presidential stair stumbles are far from rare. Barack Obama had one. Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford had theirs. Joe Biden has had a few too, and that’s where things get *spicy*.
Because Trump didn’t just laugh off Biden’s stumbles when they happened. He relentlessly mocked them.
In 2023, Trump mocked Biden for falling at the Air Force graduation ceremony in Colorado saying it was “not inspiring” for the graduates to have seen the then-POTUS take a tumble over a sandbag, per The Independent.
Fox News and other right-wing outlets happily amplified the commentary, turning Biden’s occasional physical slips into a running narrative about age, fitness, and competence. There were montages, memes, slow-motion replays; the works.
So now, with Trump himself caught mid-wobble? Yeah, the internet is having an absolute field day.
“Donald Trump was caught on camera stumbling and nearly tripping while boarding Air Force One. Some American netizens referenced his past remarks mocking Biden's falls, saying, 'Trump's cognitive abilities make him unfit for office,'" one user wrote on X, alongside a side-by-side of Trump and Biden both stumbling on the iconic plane stairs.
Someone else added: "I'm surprised he hasn't replaced those stairs with a portable escalator of some kind."
Others pointed out the irony, saying: “A hypocrite tripping up the stairs. I demand Trump take a cognitive test, from a real doctor, live on tv.”
To be clear, this wasn’t a catastrophic fall. Trump didn’t hit the ground, didn’t need help, and didn’t miss a beat once he caught his balance. But when you’ve made other people’s stumbles part of your political comedy routine, the optics hit a little harder.
Especially when it comes following an election cycle where both major candidates, Trump and Biden, were under constant scrutiny for their age, health, and ability to appear “presidential.”
For Trump, who often brands himself as the energetic, tough-talking alternative to Biden, this was an awkward reminder that no one, not even the most media-savvy president, is immune to a misstep.
And while the video probably won’t sway voters one way or another, it has given the internet a golden meme opportunity. TikToks are already popping up. Edits with dramatic music are circulating. One user even dubbed in 'The Climb' by Miley Cyrus, because, well, the internet has no chill.
So what’s the lesson here? Maybe just a bit of humility. Because the higher the stairs (and the louder the shade you throw) the harder the stumble hits when the cameras are rolling.
In a speech at White House Rose Garden, recalling his recent assassination attempt, Donald Trump mocked his vice president, JD Vance.
Attempting to embarrass his second in command, the president described Secret Service agents hoisting him out of his chair to safety while Trump remained seated.
Thanking the Secret Service for their support on the fateful night of April 25, Trump said, “I thought you did a great job two weeks ago. You know why? Because I’m here.”
Addressing the rest of the audience and trying to make Vance blush, Trump added, “They had great professional people, and they came out, and within seconds, I saw them take JD by the shoulders and lift him up like he was a little boy.”
In the aftermath of the attack at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington DC, a video of Vance being dragged from his chair by the shoulders by a Secret Service agent while Trump remained calmly seated went viral.
Joking about the viral footage, Trump said, "How come they didn’t lift me up so fast?" JD got ripped out of the chair; that was the view of the week.”
Continuing to mock the vice president, Trump asked guests who they preferred, Vance or his potential successor in the 2028 election, Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Casting doubt on Vance retaining his position, Trump said, “Is it gonna be JD? Is it gonna be someone else? I don't know.”
He then bellowed across the room, “Who likes JD Vance?” and “Who likes Marco Rubio?”
Following the audience’s applause for both candidates, Trump responded: “Sounds like a good ticket.”
While the president has explicitly declared his preferred successors are Vance and Rubio, he has not said who he would want to take his job when he departs the White House in 2028.
During his speech, Trump said, “I do believe that’s a dream team, but these are minor details.
“That does not mean you have my endorsement under any circumstance. But you know... I think it sounds like presidential candidate and vice presidential candidate.”
Rubio and Vance previously worked together in the Senate, and both opposed Trump's early bid for the presidency in 2016.
In the face of rumors about their presidential plans, Vance and Rubio have denied any strong interest in running for the top seat in the Oval Office.
However, Rubio claimed in an interview last year that he would back Vance’s presidential bid, saying, “If JD Vance runs for president, he's going to be our nominee, and I'll be one of the first people to support him.”
