Two people have died and another 20-25 people have been injured following a mass shooting in south Florida.

Per the Associated Press, gunfire erupted at the El Mula Banquet Hall in northwest Miami-Dade County, near Hialeah in the early hours of Sunday (May 30).

Police have told reporters that three individuals got out of an SUV between 12:00 AM and 01:00 AM, and opened fire on the crowd outside of the hall.

Miami-Dade police director Alfredo 'Freddy' Ramirez III has since described the shooting as a "cowardly act of gun violence".

Writing on Twitter, Ramirez said: "I am at the scene of another targeted and cowardly act of gun violence, where over 20 victims were shot and 2 have sadly died.

"These are cold blooded murderers that shot indiscriminately into a crowd and we will seek justice. My deepest condolences to the family of the victims."

Police believe the shooting was a targeted incident and no arrests have been made as of this writing.

The two people that lost their lives died at the scene, with an estimated 20-25 individuals being transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The Miami-Dade Police Department is now asking anybody with information on the incident to contact authorities.
