Footage has emerged of the Statue of Liberty in New York City being struck by lightning in a mesmerizing display. However, people have since taken to social media to say that it is an ominous premonition.
In the clip, dark storm clouds can be seen looming around the iconic monument, and a man who goes by the name Mikey Cee on Twitter filmed the stunning moment when the statue was hit by a huge lightning strike.

The footage has since gone viral and has been making the rounds on social media. At the time of writing, the original tweet has garnered over two million views.
The scene was reportedly filmed from a dock on Ellis Island, per the New York Post.
Some people took to Twitter to say that the lightning strike was an "ominous" symbol of the state of USA right now, while others pointed out that in 2020 anything goes.
"Symbolic I’m afraid," wrote one Twitter user, while another corroborated "Can the X-men fly into this scene and make everybody wear masks? Can we just solve any one thing? #nationalmood."

Yesterday afternoon (July 22nd), the New York Post reported that an intense thunderstorm with heavy winds rolled through the Big Apple, with the National Weather Service issuing a severe threat for the city and the Lower Hudson Valley between five and nine PM.
Meteorologists have also warned the publication of the potential for weak tornados and widespread flooding in the city before the rain begins to slow down around 10 PM.
Between one and one and a half inches of rainfall is expected in New York, although as much as two inches of rain could fall across the area depending on how fast the system passes overhead.
