The White House has made its position clear in response to actor Mark Ruffalo’s recent remarks at the Golden Globes.
During an interview at the prestigious awards ceremony, Ruffalo expressed his views on several political figures and social issues, sparking reactions from both sides of the aisle.
Mark Ruffalo Honors Renee Nicole Good and Discusses Political Issues at the Golden Globes
While attending the Golden Globes, Mark Ruffalo was spotted wearing a distinct 'BE GOOD' pin, which he explained had significant personal meaning.
The actor told USA Today that the pin was in honor of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old woman who was tragically shot and killed by an ICE officer, Jonathan Ross, in Minneapolis on January 7.
Renee Nicole Good was fatally shot during a raid in her neighborhood, which involved ICE officers. Video footage shows Good attempting to drive away from the scene, leading Ross to open fire.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, Ross was justified in using force, alleging that Good attempted to run over the officer as she fled.
Ruffalo, alongside other celebrities at the event, wore the pin to show solidarity with Good and to bring attention to the controversial circumstances of her death.
Ruffalo Criticizes JD Vance and Donald Trump
As Ruffalo elaborated on the significance of his pin, he didn’t hold back his criticism of political figures, particularly Vice President JD Vance and President Donald Trump.
The actor accused Vance of "lying about what’s happening," without going into specific details.
Turning his attention to Trump, Ruffalo's criticism grew even more pointed. "We're in the middle of a war with Venezuela that we illegally invaded. [Trump's] telling the world that international law doesn't matter to him," Ruffalo said, adding that Trump's personal morality seemed to override any legal considerations.
Ruffalo further lambasted Trump, calling him "a convicted felon" and a "convicted rapist."
He continued, saying: "He's a pedophile. He's the worst human being. If we're relying on this guy’s morality for the most powerful country in the world, then we’re all in a lot of trouble."
These comments are in line with the broader critique of Trump that Ruffalo has made in the past.
White House Responds: "Worst Actor" and "Even Worse Human Being"
The White House quickly responded to Ruffalo's sharp words, with Steven Cheung, Assistant to the President and Director of Communications, taking to X to share his thoughts on the actor.
Cheung, referencing an article by Page Six about Ruffalo's anti-ICE remarks, called the actor "one of the worst actors in the business."
He went further, accusing Ruffalo of being "an even worse human being" for spreading "outright lies." Cheung suggested that Ruffalo's public condemnation was rooted in self-hatred and criticized the actor’s performances, calling them "god awful."
This sharp rebuke adds fuel to the ongoing political discourse about the intersection of celebrity culture and politics, with Ruffalo’s outspoken views continuing to draw strong responses.
