A woman has been arrested after she was caught on security cameras throwing a bowl of spicy soup in a restaurant worker's face.
KCEN-TV reports that on November 7, a customer angrily confronted Jannelle Broland - an employee at Sol De Jalisco, a Mexican restaurant Temple in Texas.
The disgruntled customer, who has since been identified as Amanda Martinez, was reportedly complaining that the soup was too hot and had melted the plastic lid - when she suddenly hurled it at Broland.
This is the moment the woman threw soup at Broland's face:The day after the incident, Broland took to TikTok and recalled her encounter with the Martinez.
Broland said in the video: "All she wanted to do was yell and cuss. She called me names and the kitchen staff names.
"I told her, 'Ma’am I can still help you, all I’m asking is you do not yell and curse at me.' She says ‘Oh no, honey, you haven’t heard attitude yet, and I will talk to you any which way I f****** want. I said, 'No ma'am you will not,' and I hung up the phone."
Check out Broland's interview here:While Broland said the soup was no longer hot by the time the customer threw it at her, she did mention that the spices stung her eyes.
She said: "I remember feeling the warmth of the soup, but my eyes burned so bad. My nose was burning. It kind of, kind of took my breath away for a second because just the burning, I was really in shock from it all."
Broland also said in an interview with TMZ that she apologized to the customer and offered her a full refund or the option to get another item from the menu free of charge - but claimed that she became even angrier when she couldn't complain to another boss at the establishment.
She told the outlet: "My first thought was, ‘What just happened? Why, like why is this happening?’ and I realized I couldn’t open my eyes and I wiped away and I realized I was like, 'Wow, she really just, she threw that at me.'"
As reported by The New York Post, the Temple Police Department has now arrested Martinez, who has been charged with assault causing bodily injury.
"We do not condone this type of behavior and hold our citizens to the highest standard," Deputy Police Chief Allen Teston told KCEN-TV. "If a citizen believes they have received poor service we advise them to remain civil until the problem is resolved."
