A TikTok video, in which a young woman appears to go for an abortion at Planned Parenthood, has caused quite the furore on social media. At the time of writing, it has garnered over four million views on the platform.
The clip, which was titled Abortion time, take 2, shows the woman getting ready in front of a mirror, while a friend holds up a positive pregnancy test and asks her "How do you feel?"
The woman in question then proceeds to show off what appears to be a small baby bump, before the clip cuts to them at a Planned Parenthood in Pasadena, California, where she laughs alongside the caption "nervous laugh".
Watch the video below:
Certain groups on social media were upset at the fact that the woman did not look upset and distressed in the video - which has since been deleted from the account that posted it - as she can be seen dancing in the waiting room near a somber-looking couple, who are in the same room.
"Two abortion moods," a caption on the video reads at this point.
Finally, the woman is seen on a white table, while her friend films her and zooms in on the ultrasound before the clip ends.
Members of the "pro-life" movement were quick to denounce the controversial video. "These abortion celebration TikTok videos are something else. If you want to abort your kid and kill your own offspring I’m not going to be the one to stop you, but why do these chicks celebrate abortions as if they’re collecting Pokémon gym badges?" wrote one social media user.
"Twitter just locked my account until I removed the TikTok video of the girl joking & filming her abortion at @PPFA," the same user continued. "After your RTs & outcry, TikTok removed the girl’s account. Let’s pray for her & work to end the ‘pro-choice’ brainwashing that dehumanizes & kills helpless babies."
However, those who are pro-choice, defended the video, with one Twitter user asserting: "Whilst the video is distasteful to say the least, the rights of the mother must always come before the rights of the foetus. Pro-Choice is not brainwashing. It's giving someone their basic human right- freedom. Freedom to make their own choices about their own life."
