A bizarre moment caught on live TV appears to show a news reporter's eyes glitching... and it's really weird.

Live TV is known for the occasional bizarre moment because there's no control over what can happen.

If you're like me then you've spent some time laughing at compilations of news reporters have a rough time live on air.

The one that instantly comes to mind is the British newsreader who was caught flipping off the camera.

But some things aren't controllable, like in this instance where a news reporters eyes had a weird moment.

In the clip, a reporter appears to experience a "glitch" while blinking—her eyes seem to freeze and take on a glazed, unnatural appearance for a brief moment.

Some internet users have jumped to imaginative conclusions, with theories ranging from technological glitches in reality itself to claims of hidden agendas.

But, as with many other strange sightings, there's a perfectly rational explanation for this phenomenon.

According to one knowledgeable viewer, this visual oddity is caused by what's known as a "rolling screen repaint artifact."

This effect sometimes occurs in old antenna-based TV broadcasts, particularly when the signal is slightly degraded.

"When the news reporter blinks, the screen gets repainted, and the data for her eyes isn't quite all there as she moves her head," the viewer explained. "Some old data gets put over her eyes instead."

Essentially, the image isn't always transmitted perfectly in older broadcasts, resulting in visual glitches like this one.

Strangely, this isn't the only story about someones eyes "glitching" that comes to mind, as Katy Perry also had it happen to her - albeit a bit differently.

Dressed in a silver, can-inspired costume, Perry appears to struggle to open one of her eyes, which keeps closing as she poses for the audience at her Las Vegas residency show in 2022.

The moment quickly set off a storm of online speculation, with some fans suggesting that Perry had been replaced by a malfunctioning robot.

Others theorized it could be a side effect of a vaccine, while a more grounded group believed her eyelash glue was sticking her eye shut.

However, Perry set the record straight.

Taking to Instagram, the singer shared the viral clip herself and revealed that the so-called "glitch" was actually part of a planned stunt to promote her upcoming show dates.

"POV: When you see new 2023 PLAY dates," Perry wrote as overlay text on the video. In the caption, she revealed that the odd eye movement was actually her "broken doll eye party trick."

"Welcoming all my #flatearthers #spaceisfakers #birdsarentrealers #skyisntbluers to come see my broken doll eye party trick IRL in Vegas next year," she joked, referencing popular conspiracy theories.

So not everything requires a conspiracy theory!
