A woman has gone viral on social media after she was filmed by a teenager while trying to save a parking space by standing in it.

Per news.com.au, the incident occurred in Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast in Australia, when a 19-year-old TikTok user named Marli McLaren was out for a drive.

Take a look at the tense stand-off in the video below:

As the footage above shows, Marli pulled her car up in front of the as-yet-unidentified woman, who was standing with her hands on her hips in the car parking space with her leashed dog. The woman explained that she was saving the space for her husband, who "doesn't like confrontations."

After another bystander intervened, the woman eventually took a step back, but then became irate and asked Marli why she was filming her, before threatening to call the police.

After Marli uploaded her footage to her TikTok account, a number of viewers branded the woman a 'Karen', and now her post boasts over 612,000 views, 68,000 reactions, and 1,600 comments as of the time of writing.

For instance, one TikTok user wrote in the comments: "Nothing says 'I lost the battle' quite like calling the police over nothing.'"

Another user stated: "Love how she was bragging and then the other person told them to move."

A third person wrote: "Why are people here saying 'why can't she do that' it's called a car park meaning u get your car and park there not a human park. [sic]"

However, there were some commenters who defended the so-called Karen featured in the video and thought that it was Marli who was actually in the wrong in this particular instance.

In a later follow-up post, Marli stated that the incident actually occurred on the Queen's Birthday while she was taking her sister out for lunch.

Speaking directly to her followers, Marli stated:

"This lady was walking with her dog and I was a bit suss about it at first. She ended up moving because her husband found a car park.

“I parked my car and I said 'thank you' to the lady that was on my side as you can hear her in the video."

She added:

"I got out of my car and she was still yelling at me, telling me I was immature for recording her and whatnot. I ended up saying to her: 'Look at what you're doing. You’re starting an argument with someone who is 19. Just stop.'"
