IKEA has issued a statement explaining how it will be increasing security measures in its stores after a woman performing a sex act in one of their China branches went viral online.
Per the Daily Mail, the two-minute X-rated clip shows a half-naked woman pleasuring herself on various pieces of furniture in the store's showroom, as oblivious shoppers pass her in the background.
The Mail also reports that uncensored versions of the video have been removed from Chinese social media.
In response to the video, the Swedish furniture retail company said in a statement: "We resolutely oppose and condemn this kind of behavior, and immediately reported it to the police in the city of the suspected store."
On Saturday, the international company also stated that it will be taking "even more careful security and public cleanliness measures," and encouraged all customers to "browse stores in an orderly and civilized way".
Although the video was removed from Chinese social media, IKEA's response to the video still amassed over nine million views:
IKEA did not reveal the name of the specific branch where the video was recorded, but The Sun has reported that the video is rumored to have been filmed in IKEA's branch in the Tianhe District in Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong Province in South China.
Per the New York Post, Chinese citizens can face up to 10 days in administrative detention for deliberate public nudity.
In addition, anybody who uploads and disseminate obscene content online faces up to 15 days detention and a maximum fine of 3,000 yuan (roughly $425 USD).
The identities of the woman featured in the video and those who recorded the clip are still unknown.
Due to the fact nobody in the video can be seen wearing a facemask, it is also believed that the video was recorded prior to the outbreak. IKEA had temporarily closed all stores in response to the pandemic, although, some stores in China have started to reopen.
