An Australian supermarket has reportedly declined to refund a shopper who hoarded more than 4,800 toilet rolls and 150 bottles of hand sanitizer in the midst of the coronavirus epidemic.
According to a report by 7News the director of Drakes Supermarkets in Adelaide, Australia took to YouTube to post a video, in which he criticized the inconsiderate shopper, and then proceeded to flip him off on camera.
This man was recently arrested for licking supermarket products during the coronavirus:Supermarket director John-Paul Drake claims that the unidentified man had bought 150 32-roll packets of loo roll and 150 units of one-liter sanitizer from his shop, and had returned at a later date to try to hand them back.
In the video in question, Drake states: "He said he wanted to get a refund on 150 32-packs of toilet paper and 150 units of one-liter sanitizer. That is the sort of person that’s causing the problem in the whole country."
Speaking to 7News in a later interview, Drake added: "I think there’s a lot of people in the situation that we’re in and no one’s prepared to say anything about it. But we're over it."
This incident has occurred just a few weeks after brothers Matt and Noah Colvin, who hail from Hixson in Tennesee, were ordered by the state Attorney General’s Office to donate the 17,700 bottles of hand sanitizer they had hoarded (with the intent to sell them at an inflated price for profit) to charity.
In an official statement, Attorney General Herbert H. Slatery wrote: "We will not tolerate price gouging in this time of exceptional need, and we will take aggressive action to stop it. During this pandemic, we ask that you report suspicious activity to the Division of Consumer Affairs and refrain from threatening or hostile communication with individuals or businesses you may suspect are price gouging."
