A teenager has been awarded a whopping $20,000 after discovering a uniquely shaped Dorito in a bag of chips.
According to 9News.com.au, 13-year-old Rylee Stuart, who hails from Queensland, Australia, received the shock of her life when she was munching her way through a bag of the popular tortilla chip snack food.
The girl discovered one Dorito chip that she described as "puffy" - being three-dimensional and inflated instead of being flat.
Intrigued by her own discovery, Rylee promptly took to her TikTok account to share some footage of the chip, which she offered to sell to her followers for a fee.
A bidding war ensued as many TikTok users began competing for the chip. The video then racked up more than 7.4 million views, 1 million likes, at the time of writing.
Rylee eventually listed the item on eBay, where it eventually surged to a price of $100,000 before being taken down.
However, the listing caught the attention of Dorito executives, who have since awarded her more than $20,000 for her savvy business know-how.
Commenting on her discovery in a later interview with 9News.com.au, the middle school student stated: "I was about to eat it, and I thought I better save it for later.
"I saw $10,000 [from a bidder] and I, like, screamed [...] Dad is saying that since he bought the packet, it's his chip, but I ate the packet and found it, so I believe it is mine."
Meanwhile, Doritos Australia chief marketing officer Vandita Pandey commented on the amusing incident in a recent press release, stating: "It’s been a whirlwind couple of days for Rylee and her family and we’ve loved following her story.
"We've been so impressed with Rylee’s boldness and entrepreneurial spirit, so we wanted to make sure the Stuart family were rewarded for their creativity and love for Doritos."
So next time you're munching on some snacks, take care not to eat anything unusual. You could end up hitting the jackpot!
