A woman has died after reportedly "slipping" from her seat while riding a rollercoaster in Germany.

The 57-year-old victim - whose identity is yet to be revealed - fell from the moving ride at the Klotti Wildlife and Leisure park in Klotten, Rhineland-Palatinate, on Saturday afternoon.

The woman, reportedly from Sankt Wendel in the Saarland region of Germany, was pronounced dead at the scene after rescuers tried to resuscitate her with CPR.

German law enforcement is investigating and has been trying to understand how the woman fell to her death and whether it was due to the "fault of a third party".

According to the Independent, officials from the Koblenz public prosecutor's office revealed that the woman slid from her seat during a curve in the track, before falling 26ft from the coaster to the ground.

There is currently no suspicion of criminal conduct, the officials stressed on Monday (August 8), however, investigators are now working to confirm the cause of death and an autopsy is due to be carried out.

Engineering experts will examine the rollercoaster and the car for potential causes of the incident, and witnesses are set to be interviewed.

Klotti Park was closed for three days after the casualty, and shared a statement about the incident on social media, writing: "We would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest sympathy to the family, relatives, and friends."

"Our KLOTTI team is still shocked and stunned. Since the cause of the accident is still unclear, we cannot yet estimate what operations will be like in the next few days," they added.

However, administrators confirmed on Instagram yesterday (August 8) that after three days, the attractions would re-open to members of the public on August 9.

Although the ride has reportedly been examined and investigated by Germany's Technical Inspection Association (TÜV), the park has revealed that it plans to get the ride inspected again to ensure that it is working and safe for visitors.

"Meanwhile, the on-site investigations have ended and the rollercoaster affected by the accident has been immediately opened for operation," they wrote. "Nevertheless, we decided to have the system inspected again by the TÜV as a precaution."

The news comes after a 14-year-old girl also tragically died after the rollercoaster she was riding partly derailed at a theme park in Aarhus, Denmark.

That incident took place at the Tivoli Friheden amusement park on July 14. A 13-year-old boy was also injured in the derailing.

Our thoughts go out to anybody affected by this tragedy.
