A white woman has been captured on film smashing up her neighbor's car with two hammers before yelling "go back to Mexico!"

The incident took place in Chatsworth, Los Angeles, with the footage later being uploaded to Twitter by the owner of the car, Edy Perez, who revealed that he was in Miami, Florida when it was destroyed.

He wrote: "Bruh I hate racist ppl so much .. Im all the way in Miami while this dumba**bihh in LA f**king my car up .. all cuz she racist and dont like us [sic]."

Watch the shocking incident below:

Perez's sister noticed that something was wrong when she heard banging outside the property. She went out to investigate and saw the woman destroying the car.

Perez later told TMZ that he and his roommates have been consistently harassed by the woman since they moved into the property early last year.

Since being posted on June 13, the video has been viewed over eight million times, and it has prompted outrage on the social media website.

One Twitter user wrote: "[On] behalf of all sober white folks whose evolution has progressed beyond the Neanderthal stage - I apologize."

A second remarked: "She is menacing, threatening grave bodily harm with those hammers, and destroying property. She better be properly charged."

However, a third-person did suggest that the woman may be suffering from a neurological condition but said that even this was no excuse for her behavior.

They wrote: "I am not defending her, but having dealt with a loved one with Alzheimer's that is what this looks like. From the violent, paranoid behavior to the inappropriate shoes for the weather. I lived this with my stepmom. She was violent towards me when I was trying to care for her."

This comes as unrest continues to unfold across the US, as protests - some peaceful, some violent - are calling out the systemic injustices carried out against people of color, not least seen by the recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor.

As well as a call for justice, these ongoing protests are also demanding an end to police brutality and the racism that is so deeply entrenched in America and the western world.

The message is simple: Black lives matter.
