A woman who was trapped in a crashed car for days with her three dead friends is completely unrecognizable, her mother has said.

As previously reported, the crash occurred in Cardiff, Wales, on Saturday (March 4), but the bodies of the two girls and a male friend who died in the crash, as well as two survivors, were not discovered until Monday (March 6).

According to the BBC Eve Smith, 21, Darcy Ross, 21, and Rafel Jeanne, 24, were all killed in the car crash while 20-year-old Sophie Russon and 32-year-old Shane Loughlin spent the next 46 hours trapped in the car next to the bodies before being transported to the hospital.

Russon's mother Anna Certowicz told the outlet that police "didn't seem to think it was worth investigating".

Now, Certowicz has revealed that her daughter is in critical condition following the horrific crash, and is apparently "unrecognizable" following the injuries she sustained. The Sun detailed how the young woman also had to be sedated after she began experiencing severe panic attacks in hospital.

"She doesn't know where she is or what happened. She had panic attacks throughout the night when she came round so they sedated her. She's in shock and has a lot of injuries. You can't recognize her," Certowicz stated.

She also added that her daughter must have been absolutely terrified being trapped in a car with her dead friends for so long, revealing that she believed Russon suffered burns from her seatbelt and was suspended in the vehicle in the wake of the crash.

"She was in the car with bodies all around her, that's a lot for anybody. She was in a small space, cold, scared stiff, and not able to reach her mobile phone," she recalled.

The mother-of-three questioned how police in the air and on the ground had failed to spot the car, hitting out at them by saying: "Policemen on foot had searched the area but didn't find anything. It was on a main road, next to a roundabout and opposite a garden centre. It doesn't make sense. When I got to the scene of the crash there were 40 officers there. Where were they on Saturday when I first reported Sophie missing?"

She also wondered whether the three who passed away could have been saved if police had found them earlier. "The police told me they died on impact but the only people who will know that are Sophie and Shane. They are the only witnesses," she added.

The distraught mother also told the Daily Mail: "It's too awful to imagine what she went through trapped in the car in the dark until it got light and then dark again over two days. [Russon] was lying there for all that time, they could all have been found much quicker if the police had started searching straight away."
