Anonymous has stated that it has successfully "leaked the database of the Russian Ministry of Defence website".

The announcement comes after the infamous cyber group voiced support for Ukraine on Thursday evening, revealing that it was "in cyber war against the Russian government."

In a tweet posted hours after Russia invaded Ukraine as part of its "special military operation", the cyber collective wrote: "The Anonymous collective is officially in cyber war against the Russian government."

The tweet was accompanied by the hashtags "#Anonymous" and "#Ukraine".

Within half an hour of the tweet, Anonymous claimed to have taken down the website of the Russian-backed TV channel RT. However, the site now appears to be back up and running.

However, as their cyberwar continued, Anonymous revealed that they had successfully penetrated the Russian Ministry of Defence website.

In one tweet, the group wrote: "The Russian Ministry of Defense website is down. #Anonymous #Ukraine".

And in a follow-up tweet, Anonymous revealed: "The #Anonymous collective has leaked the database of the Russian Ministry of Defense website. #Ukraine".

The tweets have been well received on the social media platform, amassing a combined 280,000+ 'likes' since being shared.

Additionally, the official Twitter account for Ukraine has responded to the tweets by sharing a raised fist emoji in solidarity with the group.

As news outlets continue to report that Russian military forces are moving in on the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, the nation's president, Volodymyr Zelensky, has shared a series of videos showing himself defiantly defending the city's streets.

In one video, shared to social media on Friday evening, Zelensky can be seen surrounded by other Ukrainian government officials, as they stand in the streets of the nation's capital of Kyiv.

Watch Zelensky speak out below:

In the video, Zelensky says (translated via CNN): "Good evening to all. The leader of the bloc is here, the head of the President's office is here, Prime Minister [Denys] Schmyal is here, [Adviser to the head of the President's Office Mykhailo] Podoliak is here, the president is here. We are all here. Our military is here, citizens are here.

"We are all here defending our independence, our state and it will remain so.

"Glory to our defenders! Glory to our women defenders! Glory to Ukraine!"

In a second video, shared on the morning of Saturday, February 26, Zelensky states: "I am here. We are not putting down arms. We will be defending our country, because our weapon is truth, and our truth is that this is our land, our country, our children, and we will defend all of this."
