The Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, has announced on live television that he has tested positive for Covid-19.
Bolsonaro, who has repeatedly trivialized the novel coronavirus pandemic and flouted social distancing guidelines, wore a mask when he revealed his diagnosis to a hand-picked group of journalists on Tuesday lunchtime, per The Guardian.
"It came back positive," the 65-year-old said.

Back in March, the far-right politician asserted in an address to the nation that if he contracted Covid-19, he would be able to quickly shake off the virus thanks to his "athlete's background".
Bolsonaro's diagnosis comes three days after he purportedly had lunch at the home of the US ambassador to Brazil, Todd Chapman, in the country's capital, BrasÃlia.
Despite Brazil being the second-worst hit country after the United States, with over 65,000 and 1.6 million confirmed cases, Bolsanaro has continued to attend social events and political rallies, often seen wearing a mask incorrectly or not at all.
