Two cash-in-transit drivers have been praised on social media after dashcam footage went viral showing the moment they were attacked by armed robbers.

The heart-stopping footage was shared to various social media platforms, and shows the moment a driver and his colleague were bombarded with bullets on a South African road on April 22.

Footage shows the pair sitting calmly, before the driver's window becomes cracked and pitted after being struck with bullets. Loud gunshots can be heard from outside the van.

Per Sky News, the driver fights to keep control of the vehicle, as he tells his colleague to grab the gun between them.

"He's coming after us," the driver says.

However, despite being in life-threatening danger, both men remain calm.

Moments before the van is struck by more bullets, the driver can be heard saying: "They're going to shoot. They're going to f***ing shoot" - as he takes a sharp right.

"Phone Robbie, phone Josh. Ask them where they are," the driver says, as he continues to flee the robbers.

Fortunately, the professionals were able to evade any danger and survived, Sky News reports, as the robbers eventually gave up and realized they'd tried their luck with the wrong drivers.

Footage of the attack, along with images showing the aftermath of the incident, was posted to Twitter by Yusuf Abramjee, a respected anti-crime advocate.

After the footage amassed hundreds of thousands of views on Twitter, social media users were quick to praise both men for remaining so calm.

One person responding, tweeting: "These guys are very well trained. Just look at the passengers trigger awareness.

"It’s the difference between trained and amateur. Amateurs keep their fingers on the trigger and fire by accident. Very well done to these two. Keeping calm in the moment is key."

Praising the driver, another person wrote: "His composure throughout the ordeal is one in a million, he took control of the situation."

A third added: "Awesome job driver in protecting you and your colleague! Hell yes! I hope you both get paid a fortune for your job because you two kick a**. Stay safe".
