A 103-year-old coronavirus patient has recovered from the deadly disease following just six days of treatment in Wuhan, the Daily Mail reports.
Zhang Guangfen, who has now taken the record for the oldest patient in China to fight COVID-19, was discharged from hospital on Tuesday.
According to the publication, Dr. Zeng Yulan told local press that the centenarian grandmother recovered from the virus within a week because "she did not have many underlying health conditions".
Ms. Zhang was able to pull through in spite of her critical condition, which reportedly saw her unable to properly communicate with medical staff when she was admitted to the hospital.
This is the moment Zhang Guangfen, the oldest patient to be cured of coronavirus, is escorted out of the hospital by a group of medics:Ms. Zhang was diagnosed with coronavirus earlier this month, March 1, at Liyuan Affiliated Hospital of Tongji Medical College in Wuhan, Hubei Province of central China.
At the hospital, the elderly patient was spoon-fed and had her diapers changed for her by nurses, according to the account of a matron, Liao Zhenhui, to local media outlet Chutian Metropolis Daily.
Ms. Zhang was cared for painstakingly by the medics at the hospital and received nutrition therapy sessions, the matron added.
This is the moment a Coronavirus medic cries with stress:"The grandmother loved being complimented by the nurses," she continued. "She would smile and nod every time after I told her she looked pretty."
This comes just six days after the previous record-holder and fellow centenarian, Dai, beat the disease after being infected with the virus just after his 101st birthday.
He, too, spent very little time in the hospital while recovering, reportedly a week. The Daily Mail reports that in a local media outlet, he was described as looking "very energetic" by matron Li Lai, when he left the hospital.
"He often talked about his 92-year-old wife. He said he needed to get better soon so he could go home and take care of her," Li Lai added.
