Dashcam footage captures tragic moment 'heroic' couple tried to confront Bondi terrorists before being shot and killed

A newly discovered dashcam video from the Bondi Beach shooting has revealed the heroic actions of a couple who tried to stop the attackers. The shooting, which took place on Sunday, December 14, left at least 15 people dead after two gunmen opened fire on a crowd gathered to celebrate Hanukkah.

The two alleged gunmen involved in the attack were 50-year-old Sajid, who was killed at the scene, and his 24-year-old son, Naveed Akram, who remains in police custody after recovering from a coma in the hospital.

One of the first people to respond to the gunmen was Ahmed al Ahmed, a 43-year-old fruit shop owner who was seen on video trying to disarm one of the shooters, despite being shot in the arm.

More recently, additional footage has surfaced showing a couple attempting to wrestle a gun away from one of the attackers in a bold act of bravery. The video has since gone viral, capturing widespread attention online.

Dashcam video captures couple’s brave attempt to stop gunman

The shocking footage, which initially spread on Chinese social media, has been verified by ABC News Australia. It shows a man and woman rushing toward one of the shooters after he exited his vehicle.

The man, dressed in a purple shirt, appears to grapple with the gunman, attempting to take the weapon from him. The woman joins the scene shortly after, and together they try to neutralize the threat.

The couple, later identified as Boris Gurman, 69, and Sofia Gurman, 61, were the first victims of the attack. Their family spoke to the Sydney Morning Herald, expressing their grief at the sudden loss.

"We are heartbroken by the sudden and senseless loss of our beloved Boris and Sofia Gurman," their family said. "We were looking forward to celebrating Sofia’s 62nd birthday on December 17th."

The couple, married for 34 years, was known for their deep community ties and dedication to helping others. Boris, a retired mechanic, was praised for his generosity and quiet strength, while Sofia, who worked at Australia Post, was loved by her colleagues.

The family's statement also revealed their pride in the couple’s courageous actions during the attack. "We feel an overwhelming sense of pride in their bravery and selflessness," they said.

Victims remembered for their courage and kindness

While the footage captures the couple's final moments, separate aerial footage from a drone showed the pair lying together on the pavement after the attack.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that they passed away in each other's arms. Their family has asked for privacy during this difficult time, as they mourn the loss of the couple who, in their final moments, acted with courage and compassion.
