Diogo Jota's widow, Rute Cardoso, has paid tribute to her late husband on what would have been their one-month anniversary.

Cardoso, 28, posted a poignant message on social media marking one month since their wedding - a day that should have been the start of their forever, but was instead followed by unimaginable loss.

The post, shared alongside three images from the ceremony, read: "1 month of our 'until death do us part'. For ever, your white girl."

The photos captured intimate moments from the couple’s big day, including one where they are seen walking hand-in-hand with their wedding rings proudly on display.

The other two images appear to be from their first dance, set against the backdrop of what looked like a grand and joy-filled celebration.

Tragically, just 11 days after they said “I do,” the Liverpool forward died in a horrific car crash in Zamora, Spain. He was 28.

The couple’s love story had spanned over a decade. They met as teenagers in school and spent 13 years building a life together.

Just 20 hours before his passing, Jota and Rute had shared a joyful joint post celebrating their wedding, calling it a “day we will never forget.”

Under one photo, Rute had written: “My dream came true,” to which Jota had replied: “But I’m the lucky one.”

Together, they raised three children: sons Dinis, four, and Duarte, two, and a baby daughter.

Jota had only just left their side hours before the crash, after enjoying lunch with them at a scenic Atlantic resort known as “the most beautiful land" in Portugal, per the Sun.

Reports say Jota had been driving a Lamborghini and was en route to catch a ferry back to the UK when a flat tire caused the vehicle to swerve off the road.

The car then caught fire upon impact. His brother, 25-year-old André Silva - also a professional footballer playing for Portuguese club Penafiel - was also in the vehicle. Both brothers lost their lives in the accident.

Jota was travelling with his brother from Portugal to Santander to catch a ferry back to the UK to report for Liverpool pre-season, following medical advice to avoid flying after minor lung surgery.

Liverpool FC expressed devastation in a statement: “Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota. We will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, team-mates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.”
