Footage shows terrifying moment British journalist narrowly avoids being hit by Israeli airstrike
Terrifying footage has revealed the moment a British journalist narrowly avoided being hit by a missile during an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon.
Steve Sweeney, who works for Russian state broadcaster RT, was caught in the strike alongside a cameraman on Thursday (March 19).
Video shared online shows the munition landing just meters behind him as he dives for cover.
Both men were reportedly injured in the incident and later taken to the hospital.
Strike Almost Hits The Journalists
Sweeney and his cameraman were reporting when the strike occurred.
RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan shared details of the incident on X, writing: "Our correspondent Steve Sweeney has been wounded by an Israeli strike in Lebanon.
"He says an IDF plane fired upon the car carrying Steve and his cameraman, as they were crossing a bridge in the south of the country.
"Both men are conscious in hospital, doctors are diagnosing extent of shrapnel damage," she penned. "War journalists are not legitimate targets. We pray for them."
Earlier this week, the Israeli Defense Forces had indicated that strikes in the area were expected, particularly targeting crossings over the Litani River.
"Due to Hezbollah’s activities and the movement of terror operatives to southern Lebanon under the cover of the civilian population, the IDF is forced to carry out extensive and precise strikes against Hezbollah’s terror activities," army spokesman Col. Avichay Adraee said.
He added that the military intends to "attack crossings on the Litani River" to prevent the group from transferring "reinforcements and combat equipment."
According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, Israeli attacks since the start of the war have killed 968 people and injured 2,432 others, while more than one million people have been displaced.
The United Nations warned that strikes on residential buildings and civilian infrastructure may amount to war crimes under international humanitarian law.
There has been no immediate comment from the IDF regarding the reported strike involving the journalist.
